This miscellaneous Manuscript on paper once belonged to the
Library of the SS. Annunziata of Florence; it is composed of
three different parts, written by three different scribes: i. (fol.
1-82) ; 2. (fol. 83-192) ; 3. (fol. 194-201). The second part of the
Manuscript contains, besides the Bella Mano of Giusto de'Conti
and other poems, the following canzoni, sonnets and ballads of
Dante, belonging to the Vita Nuova:

at the end of the canzoni we do not find the explicit. Two other
poems of Dante follow the canzoni; the ballad "Io mi son par-
goletta" and the discordo "Ai fals ris," with the marginal trans-
lation in Italian of the other verses Latin and Provencal,

XVIII. CODEX RICCARDIANUS 1054.

This Manuscript is composed of two parts, which might be
considered as two different Manuscripts. The first part (fol.
1-41) contains the translation into Italian by Bono Giamboni,
of Vegetius Flavius treatise on War; the second part (fol. 42-
126) contains the life of Dante by Boccaccio, a fragment of
the Vita Nuova, and the six following canzoni of Dante: (fol.

Amor che nella mente. 4. Le dolci rime. 5. Amor che muovi.

XIX. CODEX TRIVULTIANUS 1058 (T).

This famous Manuscript on paper, bound in parchment and
belonging to the first half of the fifteenth century (1425), has
four different parts. The first (fol. 1-28) contains the Vita
Nuova and a few canzoni of Dante; the second contains some
chapters of M. Antonio da Ferrara and an anonymous serventese;
the third and fourth contain among other poems some sonnets
and canzoni of Dante. We learn the name of the scribe and
the age of the Manuscript from the following passages of the

book: (fol. I03 r .) "MCCCC XXV die XXV maij completus
fuit liber iste in trivisio. . . . Liber, iste completus fuit anno dni
curente MCCCC XXV die vigesimo quinto Maij in trevixio

given on page 105, "Nicolaus benzonus in trevixio facto questo
sonetto per una donna da trevixio. . . . Nicolaus benzonus in
Brixia."

This Manuscript, written during the first half of the fif-
teenth century, once belonged to the Altemps Library and recently
was in the possession of Signer Dario G. Rossi of Rome. It
belongs to the Boccaccio family of Manuscripts, and it bears
a great resemblance to the Magliabechianus VII, 1103. It con-
tains, besides the life of Dante by Boccaccio and the Vita Nuova,
the fifteen canzoni of the other Manuscripts :

and Territorial Library, Strassburg.

This Manuscript on paper, written during the second half
of the fifteenth century, belonged to the noble family Da Somaia
of Florence; it was purchased by Witte in October, 1831, and
after his death it passed to the University Library of Strass-
burg. It contains, not only the Vita Nuova and the Convivio,
but also the canzoni and other poems of Dante in the following
order. The rubrics of the canzoni are in Italian, like those we
have seen in the Laurentianus XL, 42, and with an exact numera-

This Manuscript, on paper, belonged to the famous collection
of the Rev. Matteo Luigi Canonici of Venice during the
eighteenth century, and was purchased by the Bodleian Library
in 1817. It contains the Vita Nuovo (fol. i r -33 r .), then the
canzoni, sonnets and other poems of Dante (fol. 33 V .-62 V .), and
the Convivio (fol. 65 r .-i8o7.), followed by the words "Amen.
Deo gratias." The poems of Dante are in the following order :

all the poems of the Vita Nuova of Dante (fol. i85 r .-i97 r .),
the fifteen canzoni, the discordo and the ballad "lo mi son par-
goletta" (fol. i97 r .-22o v .). The life of Dante by Aretino (fol.
22i r .-23O v .) closes the Manuscript. No rubrics are added to the

the poems of the Vita Nuova, the fifteen canzoni, the discordo,
and the ballad. In it are also found the Trionft and Rime of
Petrarch, and the life of Dante by Leonardo Aretino.

This beautiful Manuscript on vellum was written in 1478
by Antonio Sinibaldi. It has the same contents as the other
Parisian Manuscript, namely, the Trionfi and Rime of Petrarch,
the poems of the Vita Nuova, the fifteen camoni, the discordo
the ballad, and the life of Dante by Leonardo Aretino. The
order of the canzoni, however, is not exactly the same, for the
canzone "Amor tu vedi" precedes the sestina "Al poco giorno,"
instead of following it, as in the other Manuscript :

This is a paper Manuscript; it contains, to begin with,
various poems and pieces of prose of the thirteenth-fifteenth cen-
turies, and then with the addition of the Italian rubrics we have
already noticed in the Laurentianus XL, 42, and others, the
fifteen canzoni of Dante (fol. 37-43). The "Canzone di Dante
contro a Fiorenza" (fol. 43), is followed by the Rime and Trionfi
of Petrarch. The Manuscript also contains (fol. 92-97) other
canzoni and sonnets of Dante, some belonging to the Vita Nuova,
some to the Canzoniere, in the following order. We omit the
rubrics, which can be seen in the other MSS., and give only the
list of the poems:

This Manuscript on paper was written in the year 1467.
Besides other things, it contains the Italian translation of the
De Amicitia of Cicero, a treatise on rhetoric, the Epistle of St.
Bernard to Raimondo; after this follow the same poems of
Dante which we have already seen in the Laurentianus Med.
Palat. 85; namely, the selected poems of the Vita Nuova, the
fifteen canzoni, the ballad "lo mi son pargoletta" and the dis-
cordo "Ai fals ris" (fol. 3O r .-4O v .). After which comes the
rubric "Expliciunt cantilene morales Egregii poete dantis al-
legerij civis florentini." We do not give the full list of the
poems, for the reason that it is the same as that given in the
description of the immediately preceding Manuscript.

XXXIII. CODEX MAGLIABECHIANUS VII, 1336. The National
Library, Florence. II, IV, 126.

This Manuscript is on paper, and contains various poems
of Mariotto Davanzati and Francesco da Pontenano (fol. i r .-
5 r .), then the poems of Dante as found in the two preceding
Manuscripts (fol. 6 V .~39 V .) ; these are followed by the poems of
Bindo Bonichi (fol. 39 V .~77 V .)- We do not give the list of the
poems of Dante, for the reason that it is the same as that given
in describing the Manuscripts Laurentianus Medic. Palat. 85,
and Magliabechianus XXI, 121. At the beginning of Dante's
poems we find the rubric "Chanzone essonetti et ballate di

Dante alighieri di firenze." And at the end "Expliciunt can-
tilene morales Egregij poete dantis allegherj civis florentini."

XXXIV. CODEX PALATINUS 182. The National Library, Flor-
ence.

This Manuscript on vellum contains with rubrics the poems
of Dante which are given in the Manuscripts Laurentianus
Medic. Palat. 85 ; Magliabechianus XXI, 121 ; and Magliabech-
ianus VII, 1336; namely, the selected poems of the Vita Nuova,
the fifteen canzoni, the ballad "lo mi son pargoletta" and the
discordo "Ai fals ris." For this reason we omit giving a list
of the poems.

XXXV. CODEX RICCARDIANUS 1127.

This is a Manuscript on paper written in 1417. Besides
the Rime and Trionfi of Petrarch (fol. i r .-i74 r .), it contains
the selected poems of the Vita Nuova, the fifteen canzoni, the
ballad "lo mi son pargoletta," and the discordo "Ai fals ris"
(fol. i8o r .-2o6 v .). Those poems are followed by the rubric:
"Expliciunt cantilene morales egregii poete dantis expricte pro
me Amati." From this we learn therefore that the first owner
of the Manuscript was a certain "Amato lanaiuolo."

XXXVI. CODEX RICCARDIANUS 1144.

This Manuscript on paper is composed of two different
Manuscripts. The first covers pages 1-40; and the second, pages
41-135. The first part of the Manuscript is of interest to us,
for it contains the same poems which we have seen in the
last four Manuscripts; namely, the selected poems of the Vita
Nuova, the fifteen canzoni, the ballad "lo mi son pargoletta,"
and the discordo "Ai fals ris." These poems of Dante are pre-
ceded by the rubric: (fol. i r .) "Incipiunt Sonitus et cantilene
carissimi dantis ex sua Vita Nova electe." And at the end we
read the following rubric: (fol. 38 r .) "Expliciunt cantilene
morales egregij poete dantis allegherij civis Florentini."

XXXVII. CODEX RICCARDIANUS 1340.

This Manuscript on paper is miscellaneous, and after several
works in prose, for instance the letter of Eusebius about the
