COFFEE CONSUMPTION OF THE UNITED STATES.
[Based on data compiled by the statistician of the department of agriculture.]
In the calendar year 1001 the total Importation of coffee into the United States amounted
to 1.072,009.182 pounds, valued at $70,150,044. This is far in excess of the quantity taken annually
by any other country in the world. In round figures, Germany buys $40.000.001) worth of coffee
each year, France $20.000.000 and the united kingdom $13.000.000. The per capita consump-
tion in Holland and Denmark is greater than in the United States but the total quantity is. of
course, very much less. The appended table shows the imports of coffee into the United.
States for a term of years and the total coffee crop of the world for the same time.
