EXPLANATIONS.

When I closed the first volume of my work, I thought to complete
it in this volume, but it has proved much larger than I expected, and a
third volume will be needed to contain the remainder of the family.

This volume consists of branches from the fifth generation from
number 558 to 684; the earlier generations and branches from 230 to
557 being in the first volume. I think the remaining branches when
completed, will make a third volume as large as the one before you.

In this work I have made use of no unusual abbreviations, using
those of months and states, also b., born ; bapt., baptized ; m., married ;
d,, died ; p., page ; vol., volume, and dau., daughter.

I make no distinction in the male and female lines, except omit-
ting the name of White when derived from our emigrant ancestor.
Each member is numbered at birth, and when the name is followed by
+ it will be found again in its proper place with the birth number in
a bracket at the right of the name. If no + follows, all I could learn
is recorded at the birth. The small superior figure at the end of each
name denotes the generation.
