by the location of the telephone instrument, or the
primary use made of the service.

when rendered. They cover local service charges in

period ending during the preceding month. We ask

due.

THE TELEPHONE

The use of a subscriber's telephone is limited to the
subscriber, his family or employees in his interest.
Subscribers have no right to allow its use by other
parties. The telephone may be removed if this condition
of the contract is disregarded. The subscriber assumes
all responsibility for local or toll messages sent from
subscriber's station and for toit messages received at
such stations on which the charges are reversed with
the consent of the person called.

ERRORS IN DIRECTORIES

The Telephone Company issues directories to assist
it in furnishing prompt and convenient service, and it
does not guarantee to its subscribers correct listings
therein. Every precaution is taken to prevent errors
and omissions, but they may occur, and the Company

with the service, as the Telephone Company cannot
guarantee uninterrupted working of Its lines and In-

than by the negligence or willful act of the sub-

rendered useless or inoperative. Such allowance covers
the period the interruption continues after notice in
writing is received by the Telephone Company. No
other liability shall in any case attach to the Telephone
Company.

NON-PAYMENT OR VIOLATION
OF CONTRACT

In the event of the abandonment of the station, the
non-payment of any sum due or any other violation
by the subscriber of the Telephone Company's rules

DIRECT DISTANCE DIALING

%

With Direct Distance Dialing (DDD) , you can dial your own station-to-station
long distance calls. To make Direct Distance Dialing possible, the nation has
been divided into more than 120 geographic areas. Each area has its own
three-figure "Area Code," (see map on Inside Front Cover).

You probably can obtain the area code of the place you are calling by
checking the map. If the map does not clearly show the area code you want,
and it is not listed in the introductory pages of your directory, call the operator
and she will give you the area code.

You can dial direct to almost any telephone with a seven-figure or a two-
letter, five-figure number.

FROM ALL TELEPHONES (EXCEPT PAY TELEPHONES)

HOW TO DIAL

First get the correct local number and the
area code of the city you wish to call. Then
dial the DDD Code that is shown below. foWovf
the examples as shown below.

HOW TO GET OUT OF TOWN NUMBERS

If you do not have the number in the city you are calling, dial ''Operator'* and
ask her to connect you with "Directory Assistance" in the distant city; or dial
1 plus the Area Code of the town you wish to call, then dial 555-1212. If the
town you wish to call is within the 205 Area you need not dial the Area
Code. There is no charge for these calls.

IF YOU REACH A WRONG NUMBER

Ask the person who answers what city you have reached. Then dial "Oper-
ator" immediately and report it to her. She will cancel the charge. There is
no charge for these calls.

"BUSY" SIGNALS AND "NO ANSWERS"

If you get a "busy" signal or if no one answers the telephone you are calling
hang up and try the call a little later. No charge is made on uncompleted calls.

IF YOU NEED HELP

If you are cut off, encounter difficulty in hearing or experience any other
trouble, just dial "Operator" and report it to her. She will be glad to help you.

AREA CODES

— The Key To Faster Long Distance Servic

The United States and Canada are divided into more than 120 telephone areas,

each identified by a three-digit area code.

You will find that your Long Distance calls go through faster if you give the
Operator the area code and the number. The area codes for many points
are listed below. For example just say, "Area Code 311-555-2368." If the
Operator needs to know the name of the place you are calling, she will ask
you for it.
