The Greswolde or Grcswould family is thus mentioned by
Dugdale in his Antiquities of Wancickskire : — "Richard
Grcswould died before the 13th Henry IV., and next Thomas,
recorded 12 Henrt VI., amongest those persons of quality in
the county which were sworn to observe the Articles consluded'
upon in the Parliament then held, which Thomas in 16 Henry
VL, had custody of the manor of Solihull and Sheldon com-
mitted to him, and was a Justice of the Peace from the 21st to
3Cth Henry VI. , from whom descended John Greswouldr ofi
Langdon Hall, 30th Henry VIII."

Lineag^e. — This is a very ancient Welsh family, claiming
descent from Caradog Vraichvras, Lord of Gloucester.

Roger Williams, Esq. (the first of the family who adopted a
surname, of Llangibby Castle, and the Priory at Usk, co.
Monmouth, was son of William Johnes, and grandson of John
Thomas, who was 6th in descent from Howell Gam ap David,
Esq., Lord of Penrhos. The Priory of Usk, co. Monmouth,
(of which the last Superior was Elen Williams), with other
lands in the co., were granted to Eoger Williams, Esq., 34
Henry VIll., 1543. Itoger had his arms and crest confirmed
and ratified 15 March, 1575, 17 Elizabeth, " Gyronny of eight,
erm. and sa., a lion rampant or; crest, on a wreath arg. and
sa., a hound (or talliot), passant, per pale, erm. and or."
Eoger was SheiifF for co. Monmouth 3 Elizadetii. He lu.
Dorothy, dau. of Sir George Baynham, Knt. of Clcarwell
Court, CO. Gloucester (will proved at London, 23 June, l.!i80),
and left (with another son and four daus.) a succes^sor.

Sir Rowland Williams, Knt. of Llangibby Castle, co. Mon-
mouth, High Sheriff 2 James I., ra. Cee.l, dau. of Sir Edward
Mansel, Knt. of Margan, co. Glamorgan, and had, with other
issue, a dau., Jane, wife of Sir Nicholas Kemeys, Bart., and a
son and heir.

Sir Charles Williams, Knt. of Llangibby, m. 1st, a dau. of
SiR William Morgan, Knt. of Tredegar, co. Monmouth, but by
her had no issue. He iu. 2ndly, Anne, dau. of Sir John Trevor,
Knt. of Teg, co. Flint, by whom he had two sons and two daus.
Sir Charles d. 1641, and was s. by his elder son,

Trevor Williams, Esq. of Llangibby, who was created a
hart. 14 Sept. 1642. Sir Trevor m. Elizabeth, dau. and sole
heir of Thomas Morgan, Esq. of Machen and Tredegar, co.
Monmouth (by Eachael his wife, sister and co-heir of Ralph,
Lord Hopton), and had issue. His grandson (for minute
details refer to Burke's Extinct Baromtage),

Sir John Williams, Bart, of Llangibby, son of Thomas (the
4th son of the 1st bart.), by Delarivers his wife, dau. of Sir
Thomas Morgan, m. Temperance Eumsey, widow of William
Rumsey, Esq. of co. Monmouth, and had three daus.,

Ellen, his heiress.

Mary, m. Francis Herbert, Esq.

Delarivers, d. unm.

Sir John d. 11 March, 1738, and was s. in the baronetcy by his
half brother. Sir Leonard Williams, d. s. p. 1758. Sir John's
estates devolved, however, on his eldest dau.,

of William Addams, Esq. of Monmouth,* .^nd Ann his wife.
Mr. Addams, upon his marriage with the heiress of Llangibby,
assumed the additional surname of AVilliams. He had issue,
by her,

III. Trevor Addams, 6. 22 Aug. 1756 ; d. 1782.

IV. Thomas Addams (Rev.), 'Vicar of Usk, b. 15 Sept. 1758;
m. twice, and d. 1842. By his 1st wife he had a dau., Mrs.
Harris, and two sons,

1 Thomas Addams, of Monmouth, m. a dau. of Thomas
Price, Esq. of .Monmouth, and had issue.

2 William Addams, of Monmouth, m. 28 June, 1827, his
cousin, Mary, youngest dau. of William Addams Williams
Esq. of Llangibby Castle, and by her (who d. 3 April,
1868) left at his decease. 24 July, 1865, aged 72, William
Charles Addams; Edward (Rev.), Hector of Llangibby, m.
14 Aug. 1866, his cousin, Caroline Frances, 2nd dau. of
W'illiam Addams-Williams, Esq., M.P., of Llangibby
Castle, and (^ 12 Feb. 1868; Hopton, of Penarth, Llan-
gibby, in. 14 Feb. 1888, Leopoldine Margaret, 2nd dau. of
David Lawrence, Esq. ; Alfred ; Mary, deceased ; and

Hem. 2ndly, Annabella, youngest dau. of Samuel Marsh,
Esq. of Clapham, M.P. for Chippenham, and had issue,

Esq. of Clapham, M.P. for Chippenham, and had issue,

William, of Llangibby Castle.
