receiving his medical degree at Dartmouth College in 1823. He
settled at once at Readiield, Me.; in 1825, in Mount Vernon, an
adjoining town. In 1848, he moved to Marlboro, Mass., and in
1854, to Boston, giving up his practice. In 1860, he moved to
Framingham, Mass. (the part called Saxonville), where he d. May
27, 1870. He stood high in his profession, and had an extensive
practice. He was a noted anti-slavery and temperance man. He
was a good chemist, and took a great interest in agriculture, edu-
cation and religion.

Josephus, says a Manchester paper, " was the largest manufac-
turer of shuttles and bobbins in New England, and was probably

1836, he settled in Nashua, N. H., and in 1842 in Manchester, N.H.
In both places, he was Deacon in the Baptist Church. A newspaper
notice lies before me, which says he was not physically strong,
" but had an active, energetic mind which impelled him onward in
a course of great prosperity in wordly matters, and of great use-
fulness as a Christian." He was for two years a Representative
in the Legislature from Manchester. He was a liberal, kind, pious
man, much esteemed and very useful.
