First edition bound from the parts with the Seymour plates in the first state, including the very rare Seymour plates in the early numbers. Plates opposite pages 579 and 590 are exceptionally rare and previously unrecorded. Textually, the first issue, which contains the signature "E", and many of the other parts are correct issues
Smith, W.E. Dickens
Inserted is a A.L.S. from Dickens to Angus Fletcher, a Scottish sculptor, who made a bust of Dickens and who remaind a life-long friend. He appears in The uncommercial traveller as Mr. Kindheart. He was responsibile in part for the welcoming ceremonies when Charles and Kate Dickens visited Edinburgh in 1841. July 3rd (the date this book was inscribed for Fletcher) was the high point of the Dickens' stay in Scotland. Dickens in 1862 records his sorrow at the death of his old friend
