FOR 1872.

ThroHgh a career of over forty years, the Journal has maintained a high place in the
public confidence and favor. Its conductors hope to make it better and to extend its circula-
tion with each succeeding year.

The year 1872 will be one of unusual political and general interest. From beginning to
end. it will be thickly crowded with stirring events of the most important bearing and the
most absorbing public character.

Of these events the Journal will j resent a complete chronicle, rt wU be a LIVE
NEWSPAPER, with fresh Correspondence, late Telegrams, full Selections and Editori-
als, upon current themes. It will give a full view of the multiplied and hastening scenes in
the rapid panorama of the world's progress.

ISCEWS DEPARTMENT.
The News department ii in experienced hands and every effort is used to make it thorough
and complete. Besides the more detailed exposition of all leading events in other columns, a
succinct and comprehensive Review of the Week will place all events of moment before the
readers of the Weekly at a glance.

POLITICAL DEPARTMENT.
In its Political Department, the Journal will maintain vhe same fullness and accuracy
for which it has so long been distinguished. Its location at the Capital of the chief State of
the Union gives it superior facilities which, with all other agencies of ample and correct polit-
ical intelligence, it will employ to the fullest extent. Its report of Legislative Proceedings are
the fullest and earliest that are published. Conventions, speeches, documents, etc., all
receive proper attention, and no labor or expense will be spared to preserve the standard of
excellence which has always marked this department.

MARKET REPORTS.
The prompt, full and reliable Market Reports of the Journal give it special value for
the great body of producers. Albany has become the Great Eastern Cattle Market of the
Country, and our reports are the earliest and most complete that are published. It is a cen-
ter also' of the Lumber, Grain and Provision Trade, and our We-^kly Review and telegraphic
reports of the Local and General Markets are thorough and trust-worthy. To these we append
agricultural matters of value, and although the Journal is now widely sought not only in New
York, but throughout the West and Canada, the interests of farmers and producers, who can-
not afford to be without full and reliable Reports, should dictate a still larger demand for it.

MISCELLANEOUS DEPARTMENT.

Thk Miscellaneous Department is made up of a careful selection of Stories, Sketches,
Poetry, Humor and Choice Reading, and has always given the Journal great popularity as an
excellent Family Paper.

The triumph of Right Principles depends upon the thorough enlightenment of the masses.
The Press is the most constant and effective of all instructort*. The Journal, earnestly
believing the continued ascendency of the Republican party vital to the welfare of the coun-
try, will devote its best energies to that end, untnxrameled by faction and resistin": whatever
tends to impair the unity and hannony of the organization. We aim to make it the fearless
and efficient representative of the whole party, and we confidently ask all Republicans who
approve this spirit to aid us in enlarging its influence by extending its circulation. Friends
will you not organize New Journal Clubs for 1872 ?
