GENEALOGY OF THE WYMAN FAMILY.

In the work of collecting the records of the Wyman
family we are indebted to the published collections of T.
B, Wyman, Jr , of Charlestown, Mass., and Benjamin F.
Wyman, of Lancaster, Mass., for the record of the first
three generations ot o.ir ancestors, in America. From
thence we have followed our own branch of the family
tree.

We have endeavored to be accurate and thorough in

o

this work, but there rnay be mistakes, and there are in one
j or two instances omissions of names and dates, owing to
I the failure of persons to respond, after repeated solicita-
' tions for their record, and we have failed to find any trace
i of the descendants of one member of the Fifth Genera-
tion.

"The name of Wyman is of German derivation, and was
originally spelled Weymarm The two indixidnals first

4 GENEALOGY OF THE WYMAN FAMiLY.

named in this genealog)^ are the }3rogeniLor5 of the largest
portion of the Wymans in this country. The first men-
tion made of them is in Charlestown, Mass.. December i8,
1640, as signers of the 'town orders,' coeval with the set-
tlement of Woburn."

They, evidently, with other determined men of their
time sought refuge in the New World from the persecution
of the Old, and clfose to brave the dangers and hardships
of an unexplored and unbroken wilderness, for the sake ot
enjoying liberty of conscience, " Freedom to worship
God."

As the visitor to the old cemeteries on "the bleak coast
where first they trod," reads their names, almost obliterated
by time, he will be led to exclaim with the poet :

" Lo ! here they rest, who every danger braved.
Unmarked, untrophied, mid the land they saved."
