THE COMPANIES IN COL. SCAMMELL S LIGHT REGIMENT.
[In May, 81, Washington ordered the formation of a Light Infantry regiment, preparatory to taking the field in operations
against New York or in Virginia. Col. Alexander Scammell, of New Hampshire, was assigned to the command, with Lieut. -Col.
lliinlingtou, of the Third Connecticut, and Maj. Rice, of Mass., as field officers. Two companies were detached from the New Hamp
shire "Line." three from Muss., and three from the Conn. "Line." The regiment went to Virginia with Washington, where Col.
Scammell was mortally wounded and taken prisoner. Il was then divided into two battalions one under Lieut. -Col. Huntingtoa
and assigned to Lafayette s Division at the Siege. The rosters of the Conn, companies not on file. Officers were, in part, as follows^]
