Valley, N. Y.

enforce the northern army in Capt. Nathan Rowley's company
of Hampshire County, Massachusetts militia.

John Campbell served as a private in the Tryon County, New
York militia. He lived in Cherry Valley where his family
were taken prisoners by the Indians but were released through
the humane counsels of Brandt.

Giles Jackson, (1733-1810), was a member of the Provincial
Congress, 1774, and was appointed, 1777, lieutenant colonel of
Berkshire County militia, which he commanded in the Bur-
goyne campaign. He was chief of staff at Saratoga and drew
up the articles of capitulation that Burgoyne signed. He was
born in Weston ; died in Tyringham, Mass., where a monu-
ment, in 1S95, was erected to his memory and unveiled with
patriotic ceremony.

mittee of Correspondence and was a valuable advisor of Gov.

terprises and built a mill for the manufacture of paper, 1776,
which he prosecuted with success. He commanded a company
of business men, very few accustomed to hard labor, at the
New London Alarm, 1781. He was bom in Norwich, where
he died.

burg Declaration of Independence and served as major in the

burg Co., N. C.

Joseph Graham, (1759-1836), served as lieutenant and cap-
tain of rangers, 1778, and as major, 1780. He was desper-
ately wounded at Charlotte and in fifteen engagements re-
ceived nine wounds. He was born in Chester Co., Pa. ; died

he died, in Fayette County.
