private in the Massachusetts State Troops Jan 22, 1779, to July
14, 1779, Nov. 5, 1779, to Nov. 22, 1779, and June 12 to June 17,
1782, and enlisted in the Continental Army July ii, 1780, for

was state's attorney of Chittenden County from 1862
to 1865 ; was Senator from that county in 1865 and
1866; city attorney for the city of Burlington from
1871 to 1873 ; register of probate for the district of
Chittenden from 1863 to 1880; Lieutenant Governor
of Vermont from 1872 to 1874. In 1880 he repre-
sented the city of Burlington in the Legislature,
and that year he was elected assistant judge of the
Supreme Court of Vermont, and served as such until
