Bar at the Middle Temple 1887, entered the Madras
Civil Service 1873, and was Assistant and Head
Assistant Collector and Magistrate in various districts
1876-8 ; Assistant and Acting Commissioner, Nilgiris,
1878-81, and Revenue and Forest Settlement Officer
there 1881-4; Acting Registrar to the Madras High
Court 1885-7; Under Secretary to the Government

Transvaal Government, and Consulting Physician
(1894) to the R. City of Dublin Hospital, and to
Monkstown Hospital, and was President of the R. CoU.

was educiited at Winchester and at New Coll., Oxford,
is an Actor-Manager, a Trustee of Shakespeare's Birth-
place and a Governor of the Shakespeare Memorial
Theatre; founded the well-known repertoire Co.,
which bears his name, has produced many of Shake-
speare's plays and been responsible for 26 of tlio
annual Shakespeare Festivals at Stratford-on-Avon.—
