replied — I'm over eighteen." The official Roster of Ohio
Soldiers, War of the Rebellion, vol. 2, page 204, contains
the following record:

Seventh Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company A; Rocke-
feller, Franklin G.; private; age 18; date of
entering the service, Sept. 20, 1861; period of
service, 3 years.

He was wounded in the battles of Chancellorsville and
Cedar Mountain.

the Mass. militia, by Caleb Strong, governor. The commission was
in the possession of a granddaughter, Mrs. Mary Jane Wood-

phrey*, Samuel 3 , James'-, Christopher 1 ) was b. April 14, 1785, at
Stockbridge, Mass. ; m. about 1806, at Pompey, N. Y., Achsah
Bonnell. She d. about 1813; he m. 2d, April 14, 1815, at
Camillus, N. Y., Hannah Davies, dau. of Nathaniel and Sybil
(Mack) Davies. She was b. Sept. 27, 1787, near Cheshire. He
was a carpenter and joiner and a wagon-maker. He served in
the war of 1812, as a private in Capt. Tappan's company in the
detached regiment of New York militia commanded by Col. M. F.
Wood. He received a grant of one hundred and sixty acres of
land for his services. His declaration of service is on file in the
adjutant general's office at Albany. She d. Nov. 21, 1867, at
Geneva, N. Y. He d. March 21, 1870, at Auburn^ N. Y.

Herkimer Co., N. Y. ; m. Oct. 24, 1815, at Pompey, N. Y., Eunice
Hart, dau. of Comfort Hart. She was b. Feb. 5, 1799. He was a
mechanic of skill and invention. He took out many patents,
particularly for steam engines. He had a large factory and
machine shop at Salina, but disposed of it and removed to
Chicago. Here he took a contract from the state of Illinois to
make the rock cut for the Michigan and Illinois canal. While
engaged in this great undertaking he d. Nov. 16, 1840, at Athens,
111. She d. June 12, 1888.
