CORAY, HOWARD (son of Silas Coray and Mary Stephens
of Luzerne county, Penn.; latter came to Utah with her
children). Born May 6, 1817, Stevens county, N. Y. Came
to Utah Oct. 1850. John Sharp company.

Married Martha Jane Knowlton Feb. 6, 1841, in Illinois.
Member Nauvoo relief society; secretary first relief society
organized in Salt Lake. Personal friend of the Prophet
and Patriarch, Joseph and Hyrum Smith. Wrote a history
of Joseph, including his mother's memory of him. She had
a fair knowledge of law, philosophy, history, poetry, chem-
istry and geology. Was a member of the board of directors
of the Brlgham Young Academy, Provo. An earnest and
efficient Sunday school worker. She was the daughter of
Sidney A. Knowlton and Harriet Burnham of Illinois, pio-
neers 1849, and was born June 3, 1822. Their children:

siding bishop's office at Salt Lake City for five years; sec-
retary to Prophet Joseph Smith, with whom he became ac-
quainted at Nauvoo, 111., April, 1840, and for whom he had
unbounded trust and admiration during his entire life.
Assessor in Utah county; school teacher at Salt Lake City
and Provo; bookkeeper and accountant. Died Jan. 16, 1908,
at Salt Lake City, Utah.

CORAY, HOWARD KNOWLTON (son of Howard Coray and
Martha Jane Knowlton). Born April 10, 1842, at Augusta,
Van Buren county, Iowa. Came to Utah 1850, John Sharp
company.

Married Mary Elizabeth Lusk Sept. 15, 1872, at Salt Lake
City (daughter of John Nicholson Lusk and Cythls Ann
Heeler of Schuyler county. Mo.). She was born April 4,
1833. Their child: Edna Helena b. Aug. 27, 1875. Family
home Salt Lake City, Utah.

Seventy; missionary to southern states 1867-69; bishop's
counselor. Farmer and stockralser.



CORBETT, DANIEL (son of Otis Corbett and Hannah Hus-
cock). Born May 16, 1807, Farmington, Franklin county,
Me. Came to Utah In 1849.

Married Elmlra Wright, Farmington, Me., who was born
July 18, 1811. Their children: Samuel b. Oct. 19, 1835, m.
Cammilla D. Jacobsen; John b. June, 1837, m. Emily Wood-
ard; Jonathan b. 1839; Betsy, m. John Casto: Elmlra O. b.
1845; Mary b. Dec. 21, 1848, m. Martin Harris; Daniel, m.
Alverett Fackrell. Family resided in Nauvoo, 111., Maino
and Salt Lake City.

Married Ann Jones 1863, Salt Lake City, who was born
Nov. 30, 1820.

Married Maria Roseland in Nov. 1865, Salt Lake City
(daughter of John Roseland and Bole Jensen, of Sweden),
who was born Nov. 1, 1826. Their children: George Q. b.
Nov. 28, 1866: Otis b. Dec. 21, 1868; -Oscar A. b. 1859; Ida C.
b. May 4. 1863.

Missionary to Maine 1869; 2nd counselor to bishop of 2nd

as those who have reclaimed the desert and made It blossom
as the rose.

pany). She was born July 7, 1817. Came to Utah with hus-

(daughter of George Parker of Burslem, Staffordshire), who

Eliza Nael). Born Aug. 27, 1832, County Down, Ireland.

Oct. 9, 1820, and came to Utah In 1854. Their children:

ter of James Holt and Parthenla Overton of North Ogden,
Utah), who was born June 14, 1856. Their children: Mary

(daughter of John and Nancy Smith of Chatbum, Lanca-
shire), who was born Feb. 18, 1824. Their children: William,
m. Evelyn Allen; Alma, m. Elizabeth Foster; Kathrlne. d.
Infant- Smith; John; Thomas; Albert; Anne; Hyrum, d. aged
13 years; Daniel, d. Infant: Heber. Family home Salt Lake

Teacher. Turner and chalrmaker. Died July 21, 1904, at
Salt Lake City.

COTTLE, HENRY (son of William Cottle). Born May 3,
1822, Horsley, Gloucestershire. Engr. Came to Utah 186,
Independent company.

Married Elizabeth Brittle 1849 (daughter of Jesse Brittle
and Mary Round). She was taken prisoner in fight with
Indians July 24, 1866, near Laramie. and was never after-
ward seen. Her mother was killed, and father died three
weeks later from tomahawk wounds. Their children:
George, killed by Indians 1866; Thomas Edward; William
Henry, m. Julia Miller; m. Elizabeth S. Dummer; Annie.
Family home Ogden, Utah.

COTTLE, THOMAS E. (son of Henry Cottle and Elizabeth
Brittle, of England). He was born Nov. 22, 1850, Dudley,
Staffordshire, Engr. Came to Utah late in 1860, Capt. Dun-
can company.

Married Flora England Nov. 7, 1872 (daughter of John
England and Jane Povard, pioneers 1860, Capt. Duncan com-
pany; married May 4, 1834). She was born Nov. 6, 1856.
Their children: Floura Elizabeth b. Aug. 26, 1873, m. John
Negus Nov. 6, 1895; Thomas Henry b. March 21, 1876, m. Ella
Neal 1898; George Edward b. Jan. 26, 1878, died; Slener b.

P. Stock June 7, 1902; John b. Sept. 18, 1883, died; Charles

Missionary to central states two years; Sunday school
teacher. Settled at Ogden; moved to Plain City. Died March
28. 1908.

COTTLE, WILLIAM HENRY (son of Henry Cottle and Eliz-
abeth Brittle). Born March 22, 1852, Dudley, Worcester-
shire, Eng. Came to Utah in September, 1866, independent
company. On July 24, previous, he was badly wounded in
fight with Indians. All of this party were either killed or
wounded coming to Utah.

Married Julia A. Miller Feb. 5, 1872, Salt Lake City (daugh-
ter of Stephen Miller and Mary Ann Humpery of Plain
City, Utah, pioneers Oct. 1860, Capt. Miller company). She
was born June 18, 1854. Their children: Mary Ann b. June
20, 1873; William Stephen b. June 4, 1876; Julia Y. A. b.
Nov. 2, 1878.

Married Elizabeth S. Dummer July 31, 1879, Salt Lake
City (daughter of William Dummer and Sarah Hyde of Salt
Lake City, pioneers Sept. 15, 1867, Capt. Seeley company).
She was born Feb. 29, 1860, Southampton, Eng. Their chil-
dren: Henry b. July 5, 1880; Sarah A. b. July 13. 1882; Walter
b. Oct. 1, 1884; Emma J. b. Oct. 26, 1886; Lulla E. b. Oct. 27,
1888; Josephine b. April 20, 1891; Lorance N. b. April 27, 1894;

COUL.AM, JOHN (son of John Coulam). Born Aug. 2, 1802,
at Louth, Lincolnshire, Eng. Came to Utah Sept. 23, 1849,
Orson Spencer company.

Married Sarah Cordon in Lincolnshire, Eng. (daughter of
John Cordon of Lincolnshire). She died April 14, 1849.

COULAM, HENRY (son of John Coulam and Sarah Cordon).
Born March 13, 1842, Louth, Eng. Came to Utah with par-
ents.

Married Sarah Bean Aug. 24, 1867, Salt Lake City, Utah
(daughter of Joseph Bean and Sarah Beanland, of Brad-
ford, Yorkshire, Eng.). She was born Feb. 11, 1847. Came
to Utah late In 1859. Their children: John Bean b. Dec 14
1868, died; Henry, Jr. b. July 24, 1871; Sarah Louisa b. March
21, 1874, died; Joseph Cordon b. July 25, 1876, died; William
Ezra b. Nov. 30, 1878, m. Ellen May Geary; George Franklin
