(Shackley) Emery. Elizabeth, wife of Isaac Emery, re-
newed the covenant in the Second Church, Kittery, No-
vember 16, 1789. They removed in 1S02 to South Parsons-
field, Maine, where he was a farmer. He died November 22,
1825. She died February 15, 1846.

this pronunciamento on the records of the First Church, York:

the Rev. P. will receive what is just I will pay him two days
after the above. Nov. 22, 1822. Jos. Kingsbury." He died
March 6, 1852, aged 82.

64^ Eunice" Kingsbury (Samuel", Joseph*, John*, John 1 ,
Henry"), married, February 8 or 9, 1798, Deacon Jeremiah
Mclntire, born May 21, 1745, in the old Garrison House,
York, son of Samuel and Sarah (Came) Mclntire, descended
from Micum Mclntire, a Highland Scotchman, said to have
been banished by Oliver Cromwell, settled in Berwick, then
moved to and died in Scotland Parish, York, where they
lived in the old Garrison House for generations. Jeremiah
Mclntire was a farmer, and Deacon of the Second (Scot-
land) Congregational Church. Mrs. Eunice Mclntire died
in the old Garrison House, January 19, 182 1. Her husband
died there August 18,-1860.

Came, a native of York, son of Arthur Came, who was born

he graduated in i860; studied law in the office of the Hon Ira
T. Drew and the Harvard Law School ; admitted to the bar
in York County, 1863. Each winter from 1856 to 1863 he
taught school; also a term of the Alfred High School from
February to May, 1864. May 24, 1864. he opened a law office
m Alfred, and has had a successful practice there ever since
with much business in the Probate Court. He also held the
position of cashier of the Alfred Bank for a year and a half He
is Deacon of the Congregational Church in Alfred. He mar-
ried, November 22, 1871, Clara S. Littlefield, of Alfred ■ ch •
Grace Mclntire, born May 14, 1873 ; Walter Littlefield', born
April 13, 1877; graduated Bowdoin College, 1899, Harvard
Law School, 1902 ; married, August 20, 1902, Gertrude Peas-
lee; has a law office at 634 Tremont Building, Boston- resides

66^7 Hepzibah 6 Kingsbury (Samuel*, Joseph*, John 3 , John*,
Henry*), married, March 14, 1798, Joseph Junkins, of York,
born September 4, 1773, son of Samuel and Hepzibah
(Preble) Junkins, of York. He was an energetic and influen-
tial man, Captain in the State militia, and one of the chief
supporters of the Congregational Church, helping to build
the first house of worship erected in the Second Parish of the
town. Mrs. Junkins died in 1833, aged 56. He died August
18, 1856.

i Samuel, born August 8, 1799, graduated at Exeter, and taught for a
while in the High School in Portland ; he took up the study of
medicine, intending to become a physician, but died in 1826,
aged 27.

5 Hepzibah, born March 8, 1807 ; m. John Kingsbury (see No. 77^).

7 Charles, born January 29, 1820; and three others who died in child-

hood.

[Washington Junkins purchased a farm at York Corner, selling it in
1846, and buying a farm in Kittery. In 1848 he returned to York. He
served as Deputy Collector and Inspector of York Harbor, and efficiently
filled the offices of Town Clerk, Tax Collector, and Town Treasurer.
He was one of the strong members of the Congregational Church, and
served on the committee for repairing the building. He died July 9,
1882. He married Catherine B. Bragdon, daughter of James and Maria
(Baker) Bragdon, of York, a descendant of Arthur Bragdon, who was
elected Alderman of Gorgeana, the first city laid out in the New England
States, named for its projector, Sir Ferdinando Gorges, patentee of
Maine. Ch. : (1) Julia M., born February 22, 1839; (2) Samuel W., teach-
er of the York Village Grammar School, 1872-1880; afterwards Post-
master, and dealer in real estate. He has been one of the foremost
promoters of the growth of the town as a watering-place, and was one
of the incorporators of the York Harbor & Beach R. R., Town Treasurer
eight years, Representative in the Legislature, 1885, member of the
York Historical Society ; (3) Charles H., lives near his brother at York
Corners ; in the lumber business.]

(Perkins)* Bourne, of Arundel, now Kennebunk. She died
November, 1884. He was a shipbuilder in partnership with
his brother-in-law, George Bourne, and afterwards with
Daniel Lord ; he was for a time inspector of buildings at
Portland, Me.; he attended the Unitarian Church in Kenne-
bunk ; he lived in the old Bourne mansion at Kennebunk,
which now belongs to his grandchildren ; he died in Boston,
March 28, 1889.

A. Hill, of Eliot, a farmer and blacksmith; died Aprils, 1899.
Ch.: (1) Julia E., m. Dr. William O. Junkins, who has been
Mayor of Portsmouth, N. H.; (2) Daniel E. of Kittery; m.
Fanny E. Gage, who died in 1892; (3) George Albert; he went
to sea at the age of 16, making his first voyage to the East
Indies; he has crossed the Atlantic 104 times, an officer for
some time on the " Indiana," and other merchant vessels, in
1896 Chief Officer of the U. S. S. " Illinois;" (4) Helen Maude;
(5) Annie C.

He went to Boston in 1846, and engaged in the wholesale
meat and provision business. He died in Boston March 27,
"1864. His widow died September 19, 1883.

Dennett, of Kittery ; she d. July 17, 1S78; he d. April 6, 1889;
ch.: 1 Ellen M., b. Oct 8, 1839; lives in York, unm.; 2 Eliza-
beth, b. Aug. 13, 1841 ; m. May 31, 1866, Frank Hill of Bos-
ton ; d. in Washington, Mo., Sept. 5, 1866 ; 3 John, b. Nov.
28, 1843; m. July 31, 1866, Ann Mary Thompson; he is a Cap-
tain in the U. S. Revenue Service ; now stationed on the Pa-
cific coast. At the outbreak of the Civil War John Dennett
was a clerk in the Portsmouth Navy Yard, under his father ;
he resigned, and was appointed Acting Master's Mate, the
youngest in the service, being at that time nineteen years of
age; one year later he was promoted to Acting Engineer. His
services during the war was entirely in West Gulf Squadron,
under Admiral Farragut. He served on board the U. S.
Sloop of War " Seniinole," the steam tender "Cowslip," and
the U. S. Ship "Vincennes," returning to Boston in the
latter ship at the close of the war. He was in the fight
at the passage of, and surrender of, the forts in Mobile
Bay. Later he served in the U. S. S. " Wateree," and the
Flagship " Powhatan," in the South Pacific Squadron ; he
was honorably discharged in 186S. In 1S71 he was appointed
3d Lieutenant in the U. S. Revenue Service; passing through
the several grades he received his Captain's commission in
1895. At the breaking out of the Spanish War he was in
command of the Revenue Steamer " Galveston," and was
ordered with his command to New Orleans for duty in coope-
ration with the army for the defense of the city and the en-
trance to the Mississippi River. The duty of guarding the mine
field below Forts Jackson and St. Philip, and the control of
vessels passing through it was assigned to him. This duty
requiring constant watchfulness, and wide knowledge of
nautical business matters, to regulate the extensive river
traffic, was duly performed until peace was declared in Au-
gust, 1898. Ch : 1 John, b. Feb. 13, 1869; grad. Harvard
Medical School, 1895; is a physician in Congress, Ariz. ; m.
Aug. 20, 1902, Louise V. Gage, at Redondo Beach, Cal. 4

89^ Almira 7 Kingsbury {Joseph*, Joseph", Joseph*, John 3 ,
John*, Henry 1 ), married, December 31, 1818, Captain George
Moody, of York, a descendant of the Rev. Samuel Moody, a
gifted though eccentric early minister of York, and of his
still more eccentric son, Rev. Joseph Moody, known as
" Handkerchief Moody," from his habit of wearing a black
silk handkerchief over his face while preaching. He was
the original of Hawthorne's grewsome story of " The Veiled
Minister," in Tunce-Told Tales. Mrs. Almira Moody died
April 23, 1832, in York.

a leading merchant in Portsmouth, and one of the founders
of the Middle Street Baptist Church. They afterwards re-
moved to Taunton, Mass.

John 2 , Henry), of York, a sea-captain; married, September
11, 1834, Ann S. Trefethen, of Newcastle, N. H.; she died
October 19, 1836, aged 33 , in York ; (2) September 15, 1840,
Hannah Harmon Grow, born June 6, 1809, daughter of
Timothy and Olive (Harmon) Grow, and a descendant of
Nathaniel and Mary (Kingsbury) Harmon, of York. He died
May 2, 1861. Mrs. Kingsbury is now- living in York Harbor,
Maine, at the advanced age of 95 (1904).

vember 4, 1S25, Mary Jane Thurston, of Exeter, N. H. ; he
was a joiner in Portsmouth, where he died May 29, 1880,
aged 81 years and 5 months ; his wife died May 20, 1856,
aged 52
