Andrews, a descendant of the Chester County, Pa., branch
of the Andrews family;* in 1837 he removed to Illinois,
where he settled on a farm near the town of Sterling. He
died there May 26, 1895. She was educated at the best
academy then existing in Illinois — Campbell Academy at
Galena. She died November 21, 1893.

among lawyers, and Judge Simeon E. Baldwin of Connecticut
says that it is " superior to anything published since the first
edition of Kent's Commentaries for giving Americans a suc-
cinct view of American law." He was appointed by President
Roosevelt a delegate to the Universal Congress of Lawyers
and Jurists, to be held at St. Louis, Sept. 27-30, 1904. He m.

his death he risked his life by climbing a rickety ladder lead-
ing to a part of the mine, in order to rescue a man who was
overcome with faintness, and his death was caused by his
attempt to aid one who for the first time had descended into
the depths of a mine, and was overcome by the unusual con-
ditions. His work was finished, but to assist another, and
protect him from danger, he attempted to save him and
perished in the attempt. His whole life was in accord with
the qualities he showed in giving it up.

August 1, 1865, Susan E. Diston, born in Augusta, N. Y.,
May 24, 1842, daughter of Myron and Susan A. Diston. He
was enrolled in " Battery A", First Regiment New York
Light Artillery, September 1, 1861, artificer of Battery;
wounded at battle of Fair Oaks, and discharged May 29,
1862, at Washington, by reason of surgeon's certificate of
disability. He was a superintendent of bridges and build-
ings on railroads; in Chicago was superintendent of a large
manufactory of sash, blinds, doors, and other woodwork.
He was struck by a train and received injuries which re-
sulted in his death in North Evanston, 111., June 5, 1902. He
was an inventor of some note — crozing machine, malleable
iron horse collar, scroll saw, for which he received patents.

Idaho and Montana; Chief Engineer of Construction for
the same road until 1886; since that time eng-aeed in irrip-a-
tion work. He has also held the position of City Engineer
of Santa Rosa, Cal., and North Yakima, Wash.; Deputy
State Surveyor of California; County Surveyor of Yakima
County. He settled in Humboldt, Kansas, where he was
City Engineer, and Warden of the Emmanuel Episcopal
Church. He married, February 15, 1871, Anna Gibson
Adams, born August 22, 1845, m Walnut Hills, near Cincin-
nati, daughter of Henry Joseph and Abigail Ridley (Gibson)
Adams. She died March 12, 1884, in Yakima, Washington.

tain Bingham, and had a daughter, Abigail, born March 28,
1815; died at Greenville, Ind., December 24, 1853.

ioiltf Ira Kingsbury {Eleazer), was graduated at the Ohio
University, Athens, O., in civil engineering; taught school
for seven years; married about 1826, in Athens, Hannah
Pierce, a native of Pennsylvania; removed in 1831 to Hamil-
ton Co., Indiana, and settled in Strawtown; was appointed
Government Surveyor of Hamilton Co., and served with
credit; in 1841 removed with his family to Mt. Carmel,
Wabash Co., 111., where his wife, Hannah, died November
28, 1843; m Juty) : 844, he removed to Greenville, Bond Co.,
111., bought a half section of land, two and a half miles north
of Greenville, and engaged in farming; elected County Sur-
veyor of Bond Co., in 1852, and held the office for two
terms; he died October 26, 1872, on his farm, and is buried
in Greenville Cemetery.

1380a Darius Kingsbury (Ira, Eleazer), attended the
Greenville Academy, afterwards taking- a collegiate course
under Prof. S. \V. Marston of Shurtleff College, Alton; then
studied law in the office of Judge M. G. Dale, of Edwards-
ville, 111.; he was admitted to the bar November 28, i860,
and immediately afterwards opened an office at Greenville,
111. For one year he was in partnership with his brother,
Dennis, but in May, 1863, he went to Carlyle, 111., and en-
tered upon the practice of law there. He married, Decem-
ber 1, 1864, Mary E., daughter of E. M. Hazard, of Alton, 111.
From 1872 to 1880 he filled the office of State's Attorney,
having been first appointed, and afterwards elected to that
office. Under the General Incorporation Act he was the
first Mayor of Carlyle, and his administration was marked

by municipal reforms that materially promoted the prosper-
ity of the place. The water works were built during his
administration. Among - the other positions he has filled
may be mentioned City Clerk, City Attorney, and Master in
Chancery. He has also been a member of the Board of
Education, and has contributed to the advancement of the
schools of this city. In religion Mr. Kingsbury is an Epis-
copalian, and has been Senior Warden of Christ Church
