Tompkins which became Schuyler. He there married (2nd) Mrs. Lucy
Harrington Hubbard. He died September 6, 1879 in Hector, N. Y.

994— CORYDON NYE (Joaathan 347, Joaathan 112, Jonathan 29, Jona-
than 5, Benjamin 1), born at Whittingham, Vt. in 1798. He married
Freelove Groger (erroneously reported as Groges). The 1907 book lists
this name as DAVID and reports him as dying at Hermitage, N. Y. 1833.
Records of his great granddaughter Marjorie EUoise Nye (Faddis) #4597,
originally listed as Madeline Eloise Nye, show that #994 was Corydon Nye
and that Freelove Groger was the first of two wives. After the death of

Freelove, he later married Stanton who bore him several

children. The date of his death is therefore in doubt, the date listed possi-
bly being that of Freelove. Many of his children were not known to the
original compilers.

February 4, 1832 at Plainfield, Conn. , Rosilla Spaulding, born March 18,
1807 at Plainfield, Conn. They removed to La Salle Co. , 111. in 1838 and
settled in Waltham, 111. in 1840 where they resided until their deaths.
George died February 5, 1865; Rosilla died November 30, 1885.

He married in 1842, Mary Ann Hale. In 1839 he removed to Hudson, Mich,
where he died.

2631 Permelia M. , born September 9, 1844. She married Mr. Nick-
erson. They had three children, Arthur, Edna and Clinton. Edna
married Mr. Cruz; they built the Radison Hotel at Minneapolis,
Minn.

2632 Louisa, born September 20, 1846. She married Mr. Beazell.
Three children. Bill, Neil and Chester.

as Albert.

May 20, 1863, Lewis S. Hatch of Falmouth, Mass.

She married March 8, 1888, John F. Donaldson, born Nov-
ember 27, 1858, son of Hugh George and Persia (Fish)
Donaldson. She had:

a. Ruth Donaldson, born April 30, 1891. She graduated
A. B. 1913 from Wellesley College, taught in Haver-
hill, Mass. (English) until her retirement in 1946.
She resides at Falmouth, Mass.

1650 - CLARISSA SEARS NYE (Franklin 687, Barnabas 232, Barnabas
69, Ebenezer 15, John 3, Benjamin 1), born August aO, L845. She
married August 19, 1874, Samuel Curtis Smith, and resided in Newton,
Mass. She died in 1908. She had:

i Curtis Nye Smith, born January 4, 1876.
ii Franklin Elmer Smith, born April 4, 1877. He graduated

from Boston University Law School; married June 11, 1901,
Anna May Nye (1653). He practiced Law in Boston and
was, for many years, president of the Nye Family Assoc-
iation. He died November 30, 1952.

1653— ANNA MAY NYE (Albert 694, Alfred 237, Barnabas 69, Eben-
ezer 15, John 3, Benjamin 1), born May 29, 1878. She married May 11,
1901, Franklin Elmer Smith, son of Clarissa Sears Nye (1650) and Samuel
Curtis Smith. She had:

i Clara Nye Smith, born December 15, 1902 at Newton, Mass.
She married at Newton, October 6, 1928, John H. Field,
son of J. Howard and Lizzie Lee (Jones) Field. She is a
graduate of Smith College. She is serving as Clerk of the
Nye Family of America Assn. The Fields reside in the
Franklin Nye (687) house in East Sandwich, Mass. She had:

a. John Nye Field, born April 19, 1932 at Doxbury, Mass.

He married in 1955, has John Christopher Field,
born December 16, 1960.

b. Elizabeth Ann Field, born September 17, 1938. She

married in 1955, Kenneth Smith and had: Kenneth
Ericson Smith, born December 2, 1957 and Stephen
Field Smith, born June 30, 1959.

c. Virginia Lee Field, born January 19, 1938. She marr-

ied in 1961, Robert Coburn and had: Linda Grace
Coburn, born April 4, 1963.

1717— WILLIAM PENN NYE (Cornelius 733, Elisha 250, Joseph 73,
Peleg 16, John 3, Benjamin 1), born about 1823 at Fairfield, Me. He
married July 10, 1848, Hannah Bowman Lawrence at Fairfield. He ran a
general store at Fairfield until the onset of the War between the States. He
was an intensely patriotic man and immediately enlisted as a private in Co.
"H" Massachusetts Volunteers, Bay State Brigade, Division No. 2. He
contracted measles complicated by pneumonia and died in the U. S. Gen-
eral Hospital at Fort Monroe, Va. , February 6, 1862. He is interred in
Hampton National Cemetery, Va. Hannah died December 26, 1876.

Children:

3139 Mary E. , died in infancy.

3140 Henrietta, born March 6, 1850 in Fairfield, Me. She married
Joe Allen. She died at Benton, Me. , in June, 1918. Child:

i Fred Allen, born at Fairfield, September 19, 1873. he marr-
ied December 29, 1923 at Portland, Me. , Charlotte Anne
Harris, born April 5, 1887 in Nova Scotia. He died Feb-
ruary 19, 1955 at Portland, Me.

3140c Rose Bowman, born November 1, 1859; died August 10, 1873.
3140d Winfield Scott, born December 17, 1860. He sustained a perman-
ently crippled back in settling pioneer land near Belle Plaine,
Kans. and never married.

1754— JESSE B„ NYE (Joshua 745, Bartlett 251, Joseph 73, Peleg 16,
John 3, Benjamin 1), born December 12, 1817. He married Margaret King.
He was an iron moulder in Bucyrus, O. where he owned and operated a
small iron foundry in partnership with the father of President William Mc-
Kinley. He was a reserve in the U. S. Army and was called to the colors
early in the War between the States. He was mortally v.'ounded in the
Battle of Shenandoah. He was a First Lieutenant, with the rank of Brevet
Captain at the time of his death. At one time this branch of the family
spelled their name as "Nigh. "

Harriet Weymouth, born April 2, 1839, died October 7, 1920. William
died March 24, 1892. They resided at Fairfield, Me.

married October 21, 1903 at Walpole, Mass. , Henry Walter
Caldwell, son of Robert and Catherine Augusta (Blackburn) Cald-
well. She resides at Walpole, Mass. She had:

1808— ANNIE MATILDA NYE (Heman 783, Heman 257, Joseph 73,
Peleg 16, John 3, Benjamin 1), born May 1, 1860. She married June 11,
1885 John M. Freeman and lived at Wareham, Mass. She died August 1,
1943. He died October 12, 1920.

ii Mabels. Freeman, born August 11, 1889. She married Dec-
ember 27, 1919, Ernest Freeman Keyes, son of Freeman
B. and Alice A. Keyes. She graduated Bridgewater State

a social worker for 3 years. She had:

ham, Mass. , married Augxist 3, 1943 Phyllis M.

She married August 13, 1944 Thomas P. Lewis,
iv Ralph Irving Freeman, born August 1, 1896 at Wareham, Mass.
He married June 20, 1926 at Bridgewater, Mass. , Ella
Brewster, daughter of Ellis Holmes and Mary A. (Sears)
Cornish. He attended schools in Wareham, then removed
to Sandwich in 1913, He was the first rural letter carrier
in East Sandwich, serving for 42 years. He was Master of
Dewitt Clinton Lodge A. F. & A. M. , and Master of Cape
Cod Pomona Grange. He died May 25, 1964. Children:

a. Priscilla Freeman, born March 26, 1937. She gradua-

ted from Framingham State Teachers College in
1959, taught school at Hopefields Private School at
East Sandwich, Mass. She married Eric Gordon
Rorstrom October 15, 1960, has a son, James Alan
Rorstrom, born August 7, 1961.

b. Irving Brewster Freeman, born March 4, 1939. He

graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in
1961, teaches Chemistry and Physics at Worcester
Academy, Worcester, Mass.
V Wallace Murray Freeman, born September 30, 1900 in Ware-
ham, Mass. He married May 29, 1925, Gertrude Thelma
Lord,
vi John Murray Freeman, born May 1, 1903 in Wareham, Mass.
He served in the U. S. Army 1942-43. He is a custodian
and U.S. Mail messenger, resides in Sandwich, Mass.

2103~WILBUR D. NYE (Jonathan 990, Oliver 343, Jonathan 112,
Jonathan 29, Jonathan 5, Benjamin 1), born 1883. He married Rachel
Jane Fry, born 1843; died 1917. He died 1885.

an officer in the Union Army during the War between the States and was
taken prisoner after being wounded. He married Mary Ann Steele.

2125e— GEORGE WASHINGTON NYE (Samuel 998, Jonathan 347, Jona-
than 112, Jonathan 29, Jonathan 5, Benjamin 1), born April 19, 1827 at
Omar, O. He went to Calif, during the gold-rush days of 1849. He stayed
seven years and, after many vicissitudes, found gold. He returned to
Ohio by boat around the Cape. He invested his money in land and engaged
in farming. He married November 6, 1859, Phoebe Taber who died in
1925. He died February 8, 1901.
