Leavitt.

He was a graduate of William College in 1813 and stud-
ied theology at Williamstown. He resided in Greenfield,
Mass. from 1820-1825 and was the pastor of the Third Cong.
Church of Portland, Maine.

There were no children from the first marriage.

ried/l Caroline Emily (G.) Buckley/Bulkeley of Williams-
town, Mass. on May 21, 1827. She was the dau. of Joshua
Robins and Sarah (Tainton) Buckley and was born April 25,
1805 and died July 1/2, 1844, age 42, at Williamstown,
Mass. of heart disease. He m/2 Jane Butler on May 25,
1852 at Northampton, Mass. She was the dau. of William
and Huldah (Brown) Butler and was born at Northampton
September 18, 1814. (Note; Another source said he m/2
Martha Washington Gold, dau. of Thomas and Martha (Marsh)
Gold, b. October 5, 1801.)

He was a merchant at Pittsfield, Mass. during the
greater part of his life.

1564. GEORGE WHITMAN BENJAMIN 7 (Nathan ^ Joseph 3 ~ 2 , John 1 ) born

February 27, 1804 at Catskill, New York; the son of Nathan
and Ruth (Seymour) Benjamin; died June 6, 1874 at age of
70 yrs., at Albany, New York. He married Adeline Powell
on August 20, 1833. She was the dau. Of Dr. Horatio and
Hannah (Russell) Powell and was born March 24, 1814 at
Malone, New York and died November 1, 1872 at Albany, N.Y.

He was a merchant at Albany and head of the firm Ben-
jamin, Yerks, & Co., a wholesale feed company. He spent
some time at Stockbridge, Mass. and was "of Burlington,
Vermont" at the time of his marriage. He went from Bur-
lington to Cleveland, Ohio and then in 1841 moved to
Albany.

They had 9 children, but only 3 lived to adulthood.

as his second wife. He was the son of Jesse and Ether
(Buckley) Sabin and was born May 29, 1801 and died Novem-
ber 3i 1874. (Note 1 These dates were given Dr. Wilson by
his wife. In Desc. of John Whitman his b. is given as May
29, 1810 and his d. Feb. 24, 1884. )

They resided in Williamstown, Mass. and New York City.

1567. REV. NATHAN BENJAMIN 7 (Nathan 5 , Joseph^" 3 " 2 , John 1 ) born

December 14, 1811 at Catskill, New York; the son of Nathan
and Ruth (Seymour) Benjamin; died January 27, 1855, age 44
at Constantinople, Turkey of typus fever. He married Mary
Gladding Wheeler on April 25, I836 at New York City. She
was a descendant of Capt. Wheeler of Concord and a dau. of
Samuel and Emma (Gladding) Wheeler. She was born March
14, 1814 at Providence, Rhode Island and died March 5,
1871 at Medford, Mass.

His father died when he was 2 years old, and his fam-
ily then moved to Williamstown, Mass. He graduated from
Williams College in I83I and studied theology for two
years at Auburn, N.Y. and medicine at New Haven, Conn, and
graduated from Andover University in 1834. He was ordain-
ed at Williamstown on April 21, I836, was married, and
left in December of that year for Smyrna, Turkey to be a
missionary. In 1845 they returned to the U.S. because of
his wife's health, but in Oct. 1846 they returned to
Smyrna. He then took charge of the Board's printing press.
He edited a newspaper at Constantinope, where he died.
His family returned to America, where his last child was
born.

wood Cemetery at Brooklyn, New York. He married Elizabeth
Adams of Sussex, New Jersey on June 19» 1813 at Deckertown
Sussex Co., New Jersey (vr), the dau. of Lewis Adams. She
was born 1795 and died July 17, I867 at St. Louis, Miss-
ouri, at the home of her dau. She is buried with her hus-
band.

He is listed in the 1840 census of Newburgh, N.Y.

Macomb Co., Michigan.

of 43 yrs., at Avon, Oakland Co., Michigan. He married
Lucinda Stempson (Stimpson) on July 4, 1832 at Mendon,
New York. She was born in 1814 and died May/August 10,
1842 at Avon, Michigan.

Elisha moved to Michigan about 1833. His will was
probated on August 15, 1849 at Oakland Co., Michigan. In
Vol. 1 p. 72 (Probate Records) the heirs are namedi George
William, Melvin, and Almira. In Vol. 1 p. 73, the mother

is now also dead, and in Vol. 2 p. 42, their Uncle John
Benjamin is named guardian for the children.

1723. DANIEL BENJAMIN 7 (Stephen , Obed^" , Joseph 3 " 2 , John ) born
December 1, 1782 at Gasper eau, Nova Scotia, Canada; the
son of Stephen and Mary (Parker) Benjamin. He died 1854
at Pughwash, Candada. He married Jane McNab at Pughwash
on May 8, 1821, the dau. of Peter McNab. She was born at
Perth Co., Scotland and d. at Pughwash May 12, I893.

Daniel moved to Pughwash, where he "engaged in the
timber trade and land speculation" with the strong object-
ions of his family. Daniel and his brohter, Nathaniel, as
young unmarried men, are listed in The History of Annapo-
lis (calnek-Savary) with the first grantees of New Albany
on the Nictaux River in 1806. Daniel also purchased 1030
acres of woodland on March 8, 1814 at Gay's River, Col-
chester Co. He was considered the leading citizen of
Pugwash and in addition operated a large farm and esta-
blished a tannery and grist mill near the present railroad
station and later a second tannery on Water Street at
King Street, near Cyrus Eaton's ancestral home. He appar-
ently acted as village banker and had considerable funds
in local morgages and property.

probated Mar. 3» 1887 in Lunenburg Co. Nova Scotia
and was called "late of W, Bridgewater" and the
petition was made by his widow, Adelia. Her bond
smen were C. Manning and Charles Goucher. In
March 26, 1904, heirs-in-law of Daniel sold land
in order to clear an inheritance problem to
Stephen P. Benjamin. They were namedi Mrs. Lena
Davison, wife of Archie F. of Bridgewater; Vera
Benjamin, spinster; Frank Benjamin of Everett,
Mass.; and S. Edgar Benjamin of Millbury, Mass.

born June 25, 1805 at Gasper eau, Horton Township, Nova
Scotia, Canada; the son of Stephen and Molly (Pike) Ben-
jamin; died June 28, 1880. His gravestone says d. I883.

He married Anna Schofield.

Stephen moved from the Gaspereau Valley up the mount-
ain to Black River and built a house and cleared land
about 1825. His house was still standing in 1973, though
in poor condition.
