Epsilon is the English Hall social
club and in its first year of
existence, it sponsored parties,
"board meetings", and other
special events. Epsilon depends
entirely upon contributions from
its members and is not funded
by the Senate. Its primary
function is to promote the dorm
as a whole and to provide a
social outlet for its members.
The problem of putting English
Hall "on the map" is something
that has not been dealt with in
recent years but Epsilon has
worked hard to make itself and
the dorm known. ''^^
Through Rain
Night
or Snow or Gloom of
Cheerleaders
Rainy football games, angry basketball
crowds, or lack of school spirit left the
cheerleaders with a difficult and often
trying task. As cheerleaders, they had
the responsibility of raising team mo-
rale and school spirit.
During the football season the squad
consisted of seven members: Molly
(capt.), Mel (co-capt.), Mary, Michele,
Judy, Cathi, and Doris. By the time the
basketball season had rolled around
the squad had increased its members,
among them were: Chrissy, J.T., Nicky,
Jay, Frank, Jeffery, Tracey, Howard
and Greg. Being new members they
were not always full-time, but when
they participated it made a difference.
All-in-all the Guilford College cheer-
leaders of '78-'79 showed us that they
had the ingenuity to do what they set
out to do; and they say there is sti
more to come!

Community Senate
The 1978-79 year was one
of transitions and re-organi-
zation for the Community
Senate. A consensus meth-
od of business procedure
was implemented to obtain
decisions which would be ac-
ceptable to as many people
as possible. Another area of
progress was the institution
of a committee structure
within the Senate, delegat-
ing responsibility for specific
areas of concern in the Col-
lege Community. Out of this
arose the Saturday brunch
program. The Senate also
published a Course Evalua-
tion booklet. The Constitu-
tion and By Laws were rew-
ritten to standardize the
changes which formalized
the unwritten additions of
the Senate. Barbara Phillips
was the driving force behind
many of the activities of the
Senate. Her departure after
first semester was a loss to
the Senate and the entire
College Community.

College Union
The Guilford College Union started off the year with a budget
of $31,000 appropriated by the Senate. The Union staff
budgeted this money wisely in order to bring Itself out of
debt.
Marshall Chapman Band, The Homecoming dance with Janice
and Irish Folk music in October were some of the scheduled
events during Fall semester. The Recreation Committee
sponsered roller skating and bowling with the film committee
showing The Graduate, Citizen Kane and Godspell.
Serendipity was highlighted by Johnny's Dance Band, The
Belmonts and The Swamp Cats. This year's Union ran a T-
shirt contest for Serendipity. Over 100 people attended Brian
Huskey's Coffeehouse and after Spring Break a Saturday Night
Live talent show was held.

Wqfs "the voice of Greensboro" made some major
improvements in the '78-'79 schooi year. The
station was granted permission from Jim Newlin to
move its transmitter which allowed space for M
additional studio. WQFS is now able to produce l9
interviews inside its studio. A new mixer wa
installed last summ^
There was a large increase in student involveme^
this year. With a sixty-five member staff, the station

producing such favorite programs as the Great
Atlantic Radio Conspiracy, Search for Mental Health
and Rockaday Johnny. Services to the college
provided by QFS include the Greensboro Thumb (a
service for travelers), the Guilford College Crier (a
list of upcoming events), and the Concert Forecast.

The London group took a trip to
Woodbrooke, a Quaker college
in Birmingham, England. The
staff of Woodbrooke planned a
very full schedule of activities for
the group: mini-courses on Qua-
kerism, the industrial revolution,
Quaker industry, a day at Strat-
ford-Upon-Avon, and finally, a
day touring the area where the
industrial revolution began.
These pictures were all taken at
an award-winning museum: The
Ironbridge Outdoor Museum.
The group stopped for a few mo-
ments to enjoy a picnic lunch.
Jeff Flanders and George Que-
sada struck up an interesting
conversation with a group of
English schoolchildren. Jeff told
them all about American basket-
ball, and his close friends, Jim-
my Carter and Kojack. The chil-
dren were impressed
