Intelligencer,

About one hundred of the larvae
of this genus are known, including
those of several species which, being
yet undescribed, I have not enume-
rated in the foregoing list. These,
however, will be found indicated
under their respective food plants.

It will be noticed, if the following
list of food-plants be compared with
that given in the 6th volume of this
work of the plants fed on by larvae
of the genus Depressaria, that the
order Umbelliferce, which feeds half
the known larvae of that genus, is
not patronised by any larva of the
genus Gelechia; that the Composite,
which support 14 Depressarice, only
nourish 10 Gelechice (amongst which
are some of our latest discoveries) ;
that the Leguminosce, which only
afford nourishment to 4 Depressarice,
are patronised by 16 of the present
genus, and the Caryophyllacece, which
nourish no species of Depressaria,
are already known to harbour 14
larvae of the genus Gelechia.

On connait deja les chenilles a,
peu pres d'une centaine des especes
de ce genre, et meme celles de quel-
ques especes, qui n'ont jamais ete
decrites, et qui ne se trouvent pas
dans la liste que je viens de donner.
Ces chenilles cependant seront in-
diquees sous leurs plantes nourri-
cieres.

Si nous comparons la liste des
plantes affectionnees par ces chenilles
avec la liste dans le sixieme volume
de cet ouvrage des plantes qui
nourrissent les chenilles du genre
Depressaria, nous remarquerons que
l'ordre des Ombelliferes, qui nour-
rit la moitie des chenilles connues
de Depressaria, ne nourrit aucune
chenille du genre Gelechia ; les
Composees, qui nourrissent 14 De-
pressarice, ne sont mangees que
par dix Gelechice (parmi lesquelles
se trouvent quelques-unes de nos
decouvertes les plus recentes) ;
tandisque les Leguminosees, qui ne
servent a nourrir que 4 Depressarice,
nourrissent 16 des especes du genre
dont nous traitons, et les Caryophyl-
lacees, qui ne nourrissent aucune
espece de Depressaria, sont deja
connues comme plantes nourricieres
pour 14 chenilles du genre Gelechia.

Man kennt von etwa hundert
Arten dieser Gattung die Raupen.
Hierzu gehoren einige, die ich, weil
sie noch nicht beschrieben worden
sind, in dem obigen Verzeichniss
unerwahnt gelassen habe. Ich werde
sie aber unter ihren beziiglichen
Futterpflanzen bemerklich machen.

Wenn man das folgende Ver-
zeichniss der Nahrungspflanzen der
Gelechien mit demjenigen vergleicht,
welches im 6ten Bande dieses Werkes
fur die Arten von Depressaria auf-
gesttllt ist, so ergeben sich folgende
Beobachtungen. Die Ordnung der
Umbelliferen, welche die Halfte der
bekannten Arten von Depressaria
nahrt, wird von den Gelechia-rauipen
ganzlich gemieden. Die Composites
geben 14 Depressarien Nahrung,
dagegen nur 10 Gelechien, zu welchen
einige der jiingsten Entdeckungen
gehoren. Auf den Leguminosen
leben nur 4 D epressaria- ar ten , dafiir
aber 16 Gelechien. An den Caryo-
phyllaceen ist keine einzige Depres-
saria bekannt, wahrend wir schon
14 Gelechien als darauf angewiesen
kennen.

Centum fere larvarum species ex
hoc genere notae sunt, si illae adjici-
untur, quas, quum nondum descriptae
sint, in catalogo praecedenti omittere
coactus sum. Sed eas singulas apud
herbas, quibus quaeque alitur, com-
memorabo.

Qui indicem sequentem plantarum,
quae Gelechiis pabulo inserviunt, cum
eo comparat, quem de herbis De-
pressariarum pabularibus composui in
sexto hujus operis volumine, intelli-
get ordinem Umbelliferarum, quo di-
midia Depressariarum pars nutritur, a
Gelechiis plane respui. Plantae vero
Compositce, quae larvis 14 Depres-
sariarum pabulum praebent, tantum
10 Gelechias sustinent, inter quas
quasdam sunt nuperrime detectae.
Sed Leguminosce, quum quatuor tan-
tum Depressarice ex iis cibum capi-
ant, a 16 Gelechiarum larvis infes-
tantur. Atque Caryophyllaceis, quas
omnes Depressaria adspernantur,
jam cognitum est 14 Gelechiarum
species nutriri.
