THE PERFECTION OF THE BIBLE— Psalm
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the
firmament sheweth his handywork.
Day unto day uttereth speech, anc' night unto
night sheweth knowledge.
There is no speech nor language, where their
voice is not heard.
Their line is gone out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
which is as a bridegroom coming out of his
chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run
His going forth is from the end of the heaven,
and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is
nothing hid from the heat thereof.
The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the
soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making
wise the simple.
The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing
the heart: the commandment of the Lord Is
pure, enlightening the eyes.
The fear of the Lord Is clean, enduring for
ever: The judgments of the Lord are true and
More to be desired are they than gold, yea,
than much fine qold: sweeter also than honey,
and the honeycomb.
Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and
in Iteeping- of them there is great reward. Who
can understand his errors? cleanse tliou nie
from secret faults.
Keep back thy setrvant also from presumptu-
ous sins; let them not have dominion over me:
then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent
from the nreat transgression.
Let the words of my mouth, and the medita-
tion of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O
Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
THE POWER OF THE BIBLE— Psalm 119
Oh how love I thy law! It is my meditation
all the day.
Thou through thy commandments hast made
me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever
I have more understanding than all my teach-
ers: for thy testimonials are my meditation.
I understand more than the ancients, because
I keep thy precepts.
I have refrained my feet from every evil way,
that I might keep thy word.
I have not departed from thy judgments; for
thou hast taught me.
How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Through thy precepts I get understanding:
therefore I hate every false way.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light
unto my path.
I have sworn, and I will perform It, that I
will keep thy righteous judgments.
I am afflicted very much: quicken me, O Lord,
according unto they word.
Accept, I beseech thee, the freewill offerings
of my mouth, O Lord, and teach me thy judge-
Thy testimonials are wonderful: therefore doth
my soul keep them.
The entrance of thy words giveth light; It
giveth understanding unto the simple.
I opened my mouth, and panted: for I longed
for thy commandments.
Look thou upon me, and be melrciful unto me^

Order my steps in thy word: and let not any
iniquity have dominion over me.
Deliver me from the oppression of man: so
will I keep thy precepts.
Make thy face to shine upon thy servant; and
teach me thy statutes.
THE APPEAL TO THE YOUNG— Eccl. 12: 1-7.
Remember now thy creator in the days of thy
youth, while the evil days come not, nor the
years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no
pleasure in them;
While the sun, or the light, or the moon, op
the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return
after the rain:

themselves, and the grinders ct-ase .because they

daughters of music shall be brought low;
Also when they shall be afraid of that which
is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the
almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper
shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because
man goeth to his long home, and the mourners
go about the streets:

fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
Then shalt the dust return to the earth as It

THE RIGHTEOUS MAN— Psalm 1: 1-6.
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the
counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way
of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and
In his law doth he meditate day and night.
And he shall be like a tree planted by the
rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit
in his season; his leaf also shall not wither, and
whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff
which the wind driveth away.
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the
judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the
For the Lord knoweth the way of the right-

WAITING UPON GOD— Psalm 62: 1-12.
Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him
cometh my salvation.
He only Is my rock and my salvation; he Is
my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.
How long will ye imagine mischief against a
man? ye shall be slain all of you; as a bowing
wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence.
They only consult to cast him down from hia

their mouth, but they curse inwardly.
My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my
expectation is from him.

defence; 1 shall net be movea.
In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock
of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.

And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a

And he opened his mouth, and taught them,
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be

Though I speak with the tongues of men and.

Bounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and
understand ail mysteries, and all knowledge; and
though I have all faith, so that I could remove
mountains and have not charity, I am nothing.
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the
poor, and though I give my body to be burned,
and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they
are as a sleep: in the motning they are like
grass which groweth up.
In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up;
In the evening It is cut down, and withereth.
For We are consumed by thine anger, and by
thy wrath we are troubled.
Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our
secret sins in the light of thy countenance.
For all our days are passed away in thy
wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.
The days of our years are threescore years and
ten: and if by reason of strength they be four-
score years, yet Is their strength labour and sor-
row; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
Who knoweth the power of thine anger? Even
according to thy fear, .â– ^o Is thy wrath.
So teach us to number our days, that we may
apply our hearts unto wisdom.
Return, O Lord, how long? And let it repent
thee concerning thy servants.
O satisfy us early with thy mercy: that we
may rejoice and be clad all our days.
Make us glad according to the days wherein
thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we
have seen evil.
Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and
thy glory unto their children.
And let the beauty of the Lord our God be up-
on us: and establish thou the work of our hands
upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish

TRIUMPH IN DEATH— Extracts from 1 Cor.
But now is Christ risen from the dead, and
become the firstfruits of them that slept.
For since by man came death, by man came
also the resurrection of the dead.
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall
all be made alive.
But every man in his own <*rder: Christ the
firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at
Then cometh the end, when he shall have de-
livered up the kingdom to God, even the Father,
when he shall have put down all rule, and all
authority and power.
For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies
under his feet.
The last enemy that shall be destroyed is
There are also celestial bodies, and bodies
terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial Is
one, and the glory of the terrestrial Is another.
There is one glory of the sun, and another
glory of the moon, and anther glory of the stars:
for one star differeth from another star in glory.
The first man is of the earth, earthy: the
second man is the Lord from heaven.
As is the earthy, such are they also that are
earthy and as is the heavenly, such are they
also that are heavenly.
And as we have borne the Image of the earthy
we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
So when this corruptible shall have put on
incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on
immortality, then shall be brought to pass the
saying that is written. Death is swallowed up in
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where
Is thy victory?
The sting of death is sin: and the strength of
sin is the law.
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the vic-
tory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore my beloved brethren, be ye stead-
fast, unmovable, always abounding In the work
of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that you*
labour is not in vain in the Lord.
