Article VII, Section 1, Grand Lodge Constitution, as same appears in

in this Journal, on page 239, changing the time of meeting of this
Grand Lodge from the third Tuesday in November to the second Tues-
day in October of each year, and find that same is not in proper form
to be considered, and recommend that same be not adopted.

appoints a member of a Lodge as Deputy for that Lodge has resulted,
in many instances, in the Noble Grand and Vice Grand-elect being
installed into office when not in possession of the unwritten work; and
Whereas, We believe it would be for the best interest of the
)rder for the Deputy to be selected from one Lodge to act as Deputy
or another Lodge; therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Grand Master be requested to exercise more
:jenerally his power to appoint a Deputy from one Lodge to act as a
Deputy to another Lodge, and that each Lodge recommend, as at pres-

Wednesday Afternoon.
The Grand Lodge met at 2 o'clock, pursuant to adjourn-
ment, Grand Master Merrills in the chair.
Present — Grand Officers as at the morning session, and a
Cj[uorum of Representatives.
After examination by the Grand Marshal and his assis-
tants, the Grand Lodge was declared open for the transaction of
business.
The time set for election of Grand Representative having
arrived, —
By request of Grand Master Merrills, Past Grand blaster
Harris assumed the chair, and withdrew his ruling on the motion
of Bro. Orendorff that the Grand Secretary cast the vote of the
Grand Lodge for Bro. Merrills for one year.
The question was then put on the motion of Bro. Orendorff
(page ;>()()) pending at the noon adjournment, that the Grand
Secretary he instructed to cast the unanimous vote of the Grand
Lodge for Bro. Merrills for the term of one year, and the motion
prevailed.
The vote was cast accordingly, and Bro. Fred B. Merrills,'
Grand Master, was declared duly elected Grand Representative ^or
the one-year term.

We have carefully considered that part of the Grand Master's re-
port on "'Bequests," pages 55 and 5(5. and it is the unanimous opinion
of this committee that the two bequests by Bro. Chas. A. Jacot and
Elizabeth Ceiley should be set apart as a fund for the purpose of es-
tablishing-, or maintaining-, a Manual Training- School at the Orphans'
Home, said fund to be used, or invested so that the income may be
used, by and under the direction of the Grand Master and the Board of
Directors of the Home.
We therefore recommend that the (Jrand Lodge accept said be-
quests, and take such action as vv^ill create and direct the use of the
fund as above proposed.

The Chair appointed Past Grand Master Brown and Deputy
Grand Master Scott a committee to escort Mr. Biirdick into the
hall.
The committee retired, and returned with the visitor, who
was presented to the Grand Master, by whom he was introduced,
and proceeded to address the Grand Lodge on the subject of his
mission.
At the conclusion of his address. Past Grand Master Brown
requested ]\Ir. Burdick, who is noted for his musical ability, to
sing "Illinois," which he proceeded to do, to the delight of the
entire audience.
Mr. Burdick having retired, the Grand Lodge was called to
order and resumed its regular business — Deputy Grand Master
Scott in the chair.

Official Certificates to Subordinate Lodges to 75 cents per 100, and
recommend that the Grand Lodge concur in the recommendation of
the Grand Secretary, and that the price be so reduced.

Be it Resolved, That Article X, Section 10, of the Subordinate Lodge
Constitution be amended by striking oiat the word "sixty" as found in
the fifth line and second sentence of said line, and also the word "sixty"

as found in the seventh line and first sentence, both as printed in the
Illinois I.O.O.F. Code for 1906, and substituting- the word "forty"' there-
for in both instances, so as to read when amended:
"In case of the death of a beneficiary of this Lodge there shall be
allowed not less than twenty dollars as a funeral benefit to the bene-
ficiarj' or beneficiaries entitled thereto, and such further sum as may
be actually incurred under the laws of the Order for funeral expenses,
not less than forty dollars, unless shared by another society; liabilities
for funeral expenses shall be limited to forty dollars unless the Lodge,
by by-laws, assume liabilities for a larger amount. Provided, however,
the Lodge may, with the written consent of the funeral beneficiaries,
expend the funeral benefits toward the funeral expenses.
"The beneficiaries of the funeral benefit are the widow, orphans
(under the age of 21 years, members of and residing with the family of
the deceased), or the dependent relatives of the deceased, or relatives
upon whom the deceased was dependent at the time of death.
"In the event of the death of a beneficiary member of this Lodge
not leaving surviving him any of the above named beneficiaries of a
funeral benefit, and leaving either no estate or insufllcient estate to pay
the expenses of the funeral, the lodge shall pay the funeral expenses,
not to exceed the combined funeral benefits and expenses provided
by the By-Laws of this Lodge."

DOCUMENT NO. 64.
Whereas, Several members of the Old Folks' Home are possessed
of real estate or personal property varying in value from one hundred
dollars ($100) upwards, which has been placed in the hands of his or
her Subordinate or Rebekah Lodge or with individuals for safe keep-
ing, with provision for the disposition of said property upon the death
of said member, the lodge or individual frequently being the benefici-
ary, and applications for admission to the Home are frequently made
by those who have some property, the income from which is insufficient
to maintain them outside of the Home; and
Whereas, Said Subordinate or Rebekah Lodges or individuals do
not pay the cost of maintenance of said member in the Home, said cost
being paid by the members at large: therefore, be it
liesoh^cd, That the Board of Trustees of the Old Folks' Home be
governed in such matters by the following rules:
First — Any applicant for membership in the Old Folks' Home pos-
sessing real estate, securities, stocks, mone}% or other personal property

of value exceeding the sum of One Hundred Dollars ($100), shall, if ac-
cepted as a member, be required to convey, assign, transfer and set
over to the Board of Trustees of said Home all of said property in trust,
to be held and managed by said Board of Trustees for a period of
twelve (12) months, and if at or before the expiration of said period
said member shall withdraw or be discharged from the Home, then and
in that event the said Board of Trustees shall first deduct from said
property held in trust the sum of One and One-half Dollars ($1.50) for
each week that said member was a resident of the Home, and then re-
convey and turn over the remainder of said property, including all in-
crement, to said member.
Second — If, at the expiration of said period of twelve (12) months,
said member desires to remain at the Home, said Board of Trustees
shall proceed to convert all real estate, securities and personal property
other than monej', into cash, the proceeds of which, together with all
money heretofore placed in trust with said Board, including all incre-
ment, shall be remitted to the (!rand Secretary, and by him forwarded
to the Crrand Treasurer, who shall place it to the credit of said member;
from which account the Board of Trustees shall, prior to the close of
the fiscal j^ear. draw such a sum as may have been agreed upon in con-
tract for admission, provided, however, that said sum shall not be less
than One and One-half Dollars ($1.50) per week, and place same in the
maintenance fund of said Home, until said account is exhausted. The
Board of Trustees may, at its discretion, draw from said account a sum
not to exceed Four Dollars ($4.00) per month, to be given to said mem-
ber as spending money, until said account is exhausted.
Third — Upon the death of a member of the Home having a credit
balance in the hands of the Grand Treasurer, that officer shall, upon
receiving notice of such death from the said Board of Trustees, transfer
said balance to the Endowment Fund of said Home and enter it as a
donation in the name of said deceased member.
