1796, daughter of Enoch and Jane (Searle); married James Wor-
cester, who was born in Sanford, Me., 24 May, 1794, and died 4
June, 1843. Residence, Georgetown, Mass.; she died 9 Jan., 1838.

William Tenney, born in Byfield jjarish, Rowley, Mass., on the
ancestral estate, 2 July, 1802, son of Enoch and Jane (Searle); mar-
ried Huldah (Emerson) Wilder, who was born in Dan vers, Mass., 8
Jan., 1804. He was educated at Dummer Academy ; a farmer on the
home estate, and was the last of the name to occujiy the house.
His fine tenor voice is still remembered in a duet sung years ago in
the state of Maine :

" What sinners value, I resign."
He died 30 Sept., 1845; his widow occupied her half of the house
for a period, later stored her household goods and took board with a
near neighbor. She died 15 Nov., 1892. Children:

William Texxey, born in Temple, K H., 27 Feb., 1778, son of
Benjamin and Ruth (Blanchard); married in 1802, Judith Reed of
Hollis, K H., by Rev. EH Smith. Residence, Groton; removed
after 1805 to Stanstead, Lower Canada, later to St. Albans, Vt,
where his wife died 12 Aug., 1813. He married his second wife,
Mercy Forrester, 12 Sept., 1813, and removed to Hanover, N. Y.,
thence to Portland, N. Y., Hambiu-g, and Kirkland, N. Y. He died
while journeying West, at Dayton, O., of chili fever, 23 Aug., 1838.
A Mormon priest. Children :

of Benjamin and Ruth (Blanchard) ; married in Temple, Nov., 1806,
to Joshua Foster, oldest child of Joshua and Lydia (Peabody). He
was a member of Capt. Joseph Parker's company, and Col. Enoch
Hale's regiment, Jiily, 1776; also a member of Capt. Robert Fletch-
er's company, same regiment, Aug., 1778; both times he was from
Temple. (Army Roll K H., vol. 1, pp. 35-384 ; vol. 2, p. 534 ; also
3d book of S. A. R.)

He was born in Andover, Mass., 5 July, 1757; died at Temple,
N. H., 22 Oct., 1823. She died 30 Apr., 1828. Children:

of Jacob and Betsey (Boynton). Her father was born in Hollis, 21
Aug., 1756, a soldier in the Revolutionary war. (Boynton Family.)
Mr. Tenney was a carpenter and farmer ; a deacon of the Congre-
gational Church; often called captain. Residence, Groton, N. H.
She died 3 Oct., 1852. Mr. Tenney died 12 Sept., 1871. Chil-

Chamberlain of Petersham, for $60, sells land in Dana to Amos
Tenney, merchant, of Greenwich, the 20 Oct., 1826. (257 : 176,
Worcester County.) Mrs. Tenney died at Claremont, N. H., 16 Feb.,

Solomon Tenney, born in Temple, N. H., 12 Sept., 1788, son of
Benjamin and Ruth (Blanchard) ; married in Temple, 2 Mch., 1815,

1790 ; died at Wilton, N. H., 17 Jan., 1818. He married his second
wife 2 July, 1818, Lydia Kimball, by Seth Payson. She was born

Royalston, Mass., 24 Apr., 1829. He married thii-d wife in Temple-
ton, 6 Oct., 1829, Thankful Norcross, by Rev. Charles Wellington.
She was born in Templeton, 29 July, 1783, and died at Royalston,

31 Jan., 1845. He married in Winchendon, Mass., 25 June, 1845,
Levina Flagg, by Andrew Dunn. She was born in Bridgewater,
Mass., 1 Apr., 1791 ; now deceased. Rufus Bullock of Royalston,
for $300, transfers land and buildings in Royalston to Solomon Ten-
ney, 13 Apr., 1829 (268 : 81). Willard Ilolman of Royalston sella
land in Royalston, on the road to Fitzwilliam, to Solomon Tenney
of Royalston, 3 Sept., 1838. (337 : 337, Worcester County.)

Mr. Tenney died 13 Oct., 1852. His will, filed 21 Oct., 1852, men-
tions wife Levina and children, Abigail M. P. Richardson, Lydia

jamin and Ruth (Blanchard) ; married Betsey Wright of Concord,
Mass., 2 July, 1811, by Rev. Noah Miles. In 1815 he moved to
Antrim, N. H., and purchased the Nathaniel Griffin place, now the
residence of J. F. Tenney. Mrs. Tenney was born 1 Apr., 1790 ;
now deceased. He died 23 Feb., 1821. Devout people (grand-
daughter, A. L. N). Children :

Phebe Jewett Texxey, born in Hollis, X. H., 12 Oct., 1777,
daughter of Capt. William and Phebe (Jewett) ; married 19 May,
1799, Benoni Cutter, M. D. He was born in New Ipswich, N. H.,
19 Oct., 1771 ; "a man thoroughly fitted for the various duties
devolving upon his profession," and so firm was his belief in the
efficacy of prayer, he went by the name of the " praying physician."
They resided in Hollis, where he was a deacon of the Congrega-
tional Church, and died 19 Jan., 1816. Mrs. Cutter was "a woman
of unusual excellence," and died 12 Feb., 1835. Children:

Rev. Caleb Jewett Tenney, born in Hollis, X. H., 3 May,
1780, son of Capt. William and Phebe (Jewett) ; married 19
May, 1808, Ruth Channing of Newport, R. I., who died at North-
ampton, jNIass., 5 Sept., 1842, aged sixty years. He graduated at
Dartmouth college in 1801, with first rank and honor of his class,
of Avhich Hon. Daniel Webster was a member. Tenny gave the
salutatory oration. In 1829 he received D. D. from Yale college.
Ordained and installed pastor of the First Congregational church at
Newport, 12 Sept., 1804, dismissed on account of ill health 29 May,

1815. Settled at Weathersfield, Conn., 27 Mch., 1816, where he
remained until 1841, when he removed to Northampton, and died
28 Sept., 1817. INIuch has been written and published in regard to
this worthy divine. For his picture see History of Hollis. Chil-

Sept., 1863. He was a farmer, and was, for a time, in trade.
Residence, Salem, Goffstown, and Hollis, IST. H.; removed, in 1836,
to Wethersfield, 111. Mrs. Little died in July, ] 847. Children :

23 Apr., 1838. He graduated at Dartmouth college in 1808, and
was admitted to the bar in Boston in 1811. Residence, Salem,

was chosen assistant clerk in the Xew Hampshire senate, and died
13 Sept., 1838. Children:

3Iarv Polly (Hartshorn). They resided several years in Hollis,
moved to Westford, and from there to Fitchburg, Mass., where Mrs.
Boynton died in Aug., 1839. Children:

Capt. Ralph E>rERSox Texjtey, born in Hollis, N. H., 5 Oct.,
1790, son of Capt. WilUam and Phebe (Jewett) ; married at Hollis, 12
Nov.,1812, Olive Brown,-who died 15 May,1816, aged twenty-six years.
He man-ied second, 16 Aug., 1818, Phebe Caroline Smith, who was
born in Dracut, Mass., 2 June, 1790. She was an excellent and
pojuilar school teacher, a member of the church for more than half
a century, and for many years an efficient and cheerful helper in
works of benevolence and charity. She died 17 Feb., 1864. He
was a farmer on the paternal homestead, and paid the heirs $1,300
on coming into possession. Later the real estate was valued at
§5,000. He was one of the prominent men in town. He was a cap-
tain in the militia; deputy sheriff, Feb., 1829-49, and was dis-
charged at his own request; moderator, 1835 to 1837, 1840 to
1844, '46, '51, '52; selectman, 1826, '27, '28, '30, '31, '32; justice of
the jieace and quorum, examining school committee, 1827 ; re23re-
sentative in 1832, '33, '34, and 1845; senator in 1847 and 1848.
He died 19 Oct., 1854. The History of Hollis has a fine picture of
.Mr. Tenney and Mrs. Phebe C. Tenney, also of the homestead,

Isaac Kimball, born in New Ipswich, N. H., 19 Apr., 1789. Resi-
dence, Mason and Temple, N. H. In 1850 he was awarded the
first i^remium for the best cultivated farm in Hillsborough county
by the agricultural society, and was elected representative to the
legislature from Temple, 1846, '47, '48, and filled all the important
town ofiices, a manufacturer of edge tools, and a deacon of the Rev.
Mr. Hills church at Mason. They celebrated their golden wedding.
She died 25 July, 1863. He died 29 Sept., 1881. Children:

Brown University in 1817, and was ordained over Baptist church in
Marl )lehead, Mass., 10 Mch., 1819; resigned in 1820 and engaged
in missionary work iuring the remainder of his hfe. He was an
earnest, zealous preaclier, and peculiarly fitted for the diversified
duties of his calling, and died in New Haven, Conn. Children :

Moses Texxey, born in Rowley, Mass., 24 Nov. 1776-7, son of
Capt. Moses and Lucy (Stickney) ; married 6 June, 1797, Hannah
Whitaker from Weare, X. H., who was born 31 May, 1777. Resi-
dence, Xewbury, Mass. ; removed to Georgetown, Mass. A most
excellent old-fashioned farmer, a good citizen, honest and upright ;
of a genial and kindly temperament. Mrs. Tenney was tail, thin,
rather grave, speaking in a quiet tone of voice, pleasing in her close
muslin cap and steel-rimmed spectacles, sitting very erect in her
place at the table serving the grandchildren, who were delighted
with the small green-handled knives and forks never seen elsewhere.
She died 21 Sept., 1856. Mr. Tenney died in the home of his son
Caleb, 18 Jan., 1859. Children:

1904 Oliver, b. 21 June, 1798; m. Emma Emmons. He d. in

New York state 1854.

1905 Francis, b. 5 Mch., 1800; d. young.

1906 Susannah, b. 9 Sept., 1801; d. young.

Ordway of West Newbury; buried in his family lot.

24 Oct., 1803, Francis Hills. She was known in the family as
"Aunt Hannah Frank." She died at Ipswich, Mass., 5 May, 1865,
in the home of her daughter, Hannah J. Residence, Georgetown,
Mass. Children :

son of David and Abigail (Spofford) ; married Hannah Trussell
Little, daughter of James and Abigail (Trussell) of Ilampstead,
N. H. 3Irs. Tenney was born in 1796, and died 6 Oct., 1860.
Residence, Salem, Mass.; removed in 1828 to Georgetown, Mass.,
where he died 23 Oct., 1829. Children :

William Texxey, born in Rowley, Mass., son of Benjamin and
Lydia (Jackman) ; married Susanna Bailey of Dunbarton, N. H.
She was born in 1780 and died 20 June, 1833. Residence, Weare,
N. H., on lot 28, range 4, occupying a house built by Jonathan
Marble, a Quaker, in 1770. Mr. Tenney was a taxpayer in Weare
in 1850. (Town Hist.) His death occurred not far from that
date. (Book Note.) Children :

Benjamin Tenney, born in Weare, N. H., 17 June, 1798, son of
Benjamin and Lydia (Jackman) ; married Emily Hatch, now de-
ceased. He was drafted for the militia, in Capt. Phineas Storer's
company, and entered the service 12 Sept., 1814, for sixty days.
He died leaving a daughter one year old. Child :

Benjamin and Lydia (Jackman) ; married 8 Jan., 1824, Tryphena
Bissell, who was born 30 May, 1807, and died 23 A^jr., 1896. Resi-
dence, Mendon, Vt., where he died 29 June, 1891.

Thev "were cared for in their declining years by their son William
and daughter Emily T., who at this date (1903) occupy the home-
stead farm. Children :
