hooks of any business for which a license fee is charged.
The Chief of Police is solely responsible for the en-
forcement of all laws relating to the municipality.
The Chief of Police is jointly responsible with the Dis-
trict Attorney for the prosecution of criminal cases.
The Warrant and Bond Deputy shall keep his office
open continuously night and day for transaction of
business.
The Warrant and Bond Office is under the jurisdiction
of the Police Commission.
In the matter of fixing bail and ordering the release of
prisoners the Warrant and Bond Deputy is subject to
the judges in San Francisco courts.
In the case pf riot, the Chief of Police shall have all the
powers conferred on the Sheriff by laws of the State.
The Chief of Police has power to revoke any permit
granted under the ordinances of the Board of Super-
visors.
Special police officers are appointed and removed in
the discretion of the Police Commission.
The City Attorney's Office usually handles the litiga-
tion resulting from municipal railway accidents.
The oral examination cannot be used in any civil serv-
ice examination for selection of members of the Police
Department.
The Charter provides for identical procedure for all
departments of the city service.
Removal or discharge may be made for any of the fol-
lowing causes: Incompetence, Habitual Intemperance,
Insubordination, Inattention to Duties, or engaging in
prohibited political activity.
Members of the Police Department cannot be sus-
pended for disciplinary purposes for a period exceed-
ing three months.
When charges are filed against a member he must be
given notice of such charges by registered mail.
. The Chief of Police is authorized to suspend a member
for disciplinary purposes for a period of thirty days
without a trial or hearing by the board.
, The Charter provides that no new member .â– ^hall be
assigned to duty until he has completed his training in
the police .school.
. Any appointment to a permanent position in the uni-
formed ranks of the Police Department shall be sub-
ject to one year's probation.
. The Mayor is the Chief Executive Officer of the City
and County.

. Every officer should become skilled in testifying on the
witness stand.
. Evidence secured by confession given in exchange for
a promise of leniency is generally considered highly
reliable.

terms of opinion when on the witness stand.

the meaning of all questions asked, and await time for

suitable locks.

Wharton emblazoned on it as Gene got huffy during the
Camp Perry match and tried to tell the scorers they had
given him too many points in the final score. Gene is a
mild sort of a guy but these sudden outbursts are not

The Pacific States Championship matches will be held
at the S. F. Pohce Range on June 18, 19 and 20. This
is the regular annual shoot at the Range and many of
the West's outstanding shots will be there. Programs for
