N. B. Where through rate is made by adding differential as above, such through rate will be subject to the minimum car-
load weight provided for the commodity rate applying to points taking "Group C" rate. In other words, should there be a com-
modity item subject to minimum carload weight of 30,000 Ibs., to points taking "Group C" rate, while current Canadian Classi-
fication governing the differential provides a different minimum carload weight, the 30,000 pound minimum will govern through/'
from point of shipment.

APPLICATION OF RATES.
ALTERNATIVE APPLICATION OF COMBINATION RATES.
This tariff names rates .to certain rate zones (Groups "A" to "J", inclusive) comprising the territory east
of the Rocky Mountains to Atlantic Seaboard, inclusive, the through rates named to each rate group being gener- ,
ally less than the through rates named to the next more distant rate group, and therefore, the aggregate of rates ;
applying to an'd from intermediate points may be less than J;he through rates named herein. To illustrate
(a) The tariff rate applying to a point on or west of the edge of one rate group in combination with the
local rate applying thence to a destination in a .higher rate group may aggregate less than the through rate |
named herein to the higher rate group.
(b) Similarly, the aggregate of the rate applying to an intermediate junction point (such as Chicago,
East St. Louis, 111., Memphis, Tenn., New Orleans, La., Omaha, Neb., St. Paul, Duluth, Minn., etc.) and
the rate applying thence to destination may be less than the published through rates.
As it is recognized that the charges from point of origin through to destination should not exceed the ag-
gregate of rates applying to and from intermediate points, the following alternative rate provision will apply:
If the aggregate of intermediate rates via the route over which the
shipment moves, wherever found, makes less than the joint through rates
contained in this tariff, such aggregate of rates will be applied.
