The Fundamentals |

This collection of readings is very important in evangelical church history; It codified the beliefs of a religious movement at the beginning of the last milennia, fundamentalism.
The books attempted to create a framework for pastors and theologians to counter the emerging field of higher cricism. The book is an edited collection. There does not appear to be a date on this manuscript which suggests it might be an early or first edition. The first edition was published in 1909.
Topics inclued the virgin birth, the incarnation, the person and work of the Holy Spirit, and a critique of higher criticism. Authors include James Orr, Benjamin Warfield, A.T. Pierson, and R.A. Torrey. |

While this is only the first seven volumes of a twelve volume collection - these documents are extremely readable and part of an important theological collection that served as the undergirding of the theological movement known as fundamentalism. |

These articles are of generally excellent quality. Even the datedness of some of them seem almost prophetic read today. One of the most consistenty superior authors is one I have never heard of before, not a professional minister, but a NY lawyer named Phillip Mauro. Read his personal testimony in vol 4 p 105; a powerful article on the Word in vol 5 p 7 and a most perceptive article on Modern Philosophy on p 85 of volume 2. |
