FOREWORD

This edition of Broadcasting Stations of the World lists all known radio
broadcasting and television stations except those in the continental U. S. A.
on domestic channels. For convenient reference this publication is divided
into four parts as follows:

PART I (Blue Cover): Information is indexed alphabetically by Country
and City. Within a city, frequencies are listed in ascending order. Other
information included is call letters and/or station name, power, wavelength,
frequency, status of frequency or transmitter and ownership.

PART II (Green Cover): Information is indexed according to Frequency
in ascending order. Owing to certain limitations introduced by machine pro-
cessing, frequency indexing follows the right rather than the conventional left
margin of the page.

PART III (Maroon Cover): This compilation is indexed first by CALL
LETTERS and second by STATION NAME or SLOGAN. Since it is used
primarily to identify stations, only items of information enabling location of
full information by cross-reference to part I or part II are included.

PART IV (Brown Cover): Two sections, one for FREQUENCY MODU-
LATION broadcasting stations and the other for TELEVISION stations, each
separately indexed by country and city and by frequency, include the same
elements of informa tion as parts I and II plus additional pertinent data neces-
sary to distinguish audio, video, polarization, and other technical factors
applying in their range of the spectrum.

A table of summer, winter and standard time differences with respect to
G. M. T. for each country is included in the back of part III.

SECTION A
FREQUENCY MODULATION STATIONS

The column headings covering all data listed in section A are defined as follows:

COUNTRY: The country, colony, mandate, protectorate or overseas territory in which the station
is located.

CITY: The announced location of the station. It is usually the studio location, since most FM
transmitters are placed upon the highest location in the area in order to obtain more widespread coverage.
Wherever possible, the transmitter location follows the name of the city. In a few cases, the area where
the transmitter is located is given on the third line of the entry.

SYMBOLS: See page iv for explanation. Status denoted by symbols may change at any time after
the publication date of this edition.

CALL LETTERS: The identification of a station in terms of letters of the alphabet and/or nu-
merals, usually selected from block combinations allocated each country by international agreements.
Numerous countries do not assign call letters to broadcast services, hence the omission of this information
from a considerable number of entries. Many stations will be identified by the announcement of a
station name which can be given in lieu of, but may be given in addition to, the call letters.

OWNERSHIP: The entity, individual or corporate, in whose name the station is licensed and
operated.

POWER: Stated in watts. All entries which show an asterisk (*) reflect the effective radiated
power (ERP), due to the station's antenna system. All other entries give the actual rated power of the
transmitter.

FREQUENCY: Expressed in kilocycles per second. For various reasons, stations may, at times,
utilize frequencies which are at variance with this publication.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Certain entries will carry additional information on the third
line concerning the programs carried.
