Commodity Exchange Branch
Executive order 9069, dated Feb. 23, 1942, consolidated the Commodity Exchange
Administration with certain other agencies of the Department of Agriculture into
the Agricultural Marketing Administration. Administrator's memorandum 2,
dated Mar. 9, 1942, emanating from the Agricultural Marketing Administration,
transferred all functions of the Commodity Exchange Administration to the Com-
modity Exchange Branch, except those functions assigned to staff divisions of
the Agricultural Marketing Administration.
Defense Transportation OflSce
Executive order 8989, dated Dec. 18, 1941, established the Office of Defense
Transportation in the Executive Office of the President to assure maximum
utilization of the domestic transportation facilities of the Nation for the successful
prosecution of the War. This Office assumed the duties formerly vested in the
Transportation Division of the Advisory Commission to the Council of National
Defense.
Services of Supply
Executive order 9082, of Feb. 28, 1942, effective Mar. 9, 1942, reorganizing the
Army of the United States and transferring certain functions within the War
Department, provided a service of supply command under a Commanding General,
Services of Supply, and transferred to the Services of Supply, the functions of
the Chief of Coast Artillery relating to procurement, storage, and issue. War
Department circular 59, dated Mar. 2, 1942, listed the following supply arms and
services and War Department offices and agencies, to come under the direct
command of the Commanding General, Services of Supply :
(1) Those parts of the office of Under Secretary of War engaged in functions
of procurement and industrial mobilization.
(2) Budget Advisory Committee.
(3) Surgeon General.
(4) Chief of Engineers (except with respect to civil functions, for which he
reports directly to the Secretary of War).
(5) Chief Signal Officer.
(6) Quartermaster General.
(7) Chief of Ordnance.
(8) Chief of Chemical Warfare Service.
(9 ) Present supply functions of Chief of Coast Ai'tillery, and the military and
civilian personnel assigned thereto.
(10) Chief of Finance.
(11) Judge Advocate General (except with respect to courts martial and certain
legal matters for which he reports directly to the Secretary of War).

War Information Office
Executive order 91S2, dated June 13, 1942, consolidated certain war information
functions into an OflBce of War Information within the Emergency Management
Office. The powers and duties of the Office of Facts and Figures, the Office of
Government Reports, the Coordinator of Information, and the Division of Infor-
mation of the Emergency Management Office were transferred and consolidated
into the Office of War Information, a director at the head thereof, appointed by
the President.
