LIST OF THE GRADUATES WHOSE NAMES ARE
COMPRISED IN THE ROLL, WHO OBTAINED
HONOURS, DISTINCTION OR COMMENDATION
ON GRADUATION.

FACULTY OF ARTS.

Honours were granted in 1861 in accordance with what had been the usage at
King's College and Marischal College respectively. ^

At the graduation of 1862, in accordance with the terms of Ordinance No. 14
of 26th January, 1861, of the Commissioners appointed under the Universities
(Scotland) Act, 1858, the system was introduced of having two grades of honours
in each of the following departments : —

Classical Literature (CI.),
Mental Philosophy (Ment.),
Mathematics and Natural Philosophy (Math.),
and one grade in Natural Science (Sc).

Under Ordinance No. 1 1 of the Commissioners under the Universities (Scot-
land) Act, 1889, the department of Natural Science has been abolished, and three
grades of honours have been recognised in each of the departments of
Classics (CI.),

Mental Philosophy (Ment.),
Mathematics and Natural Philosophy (Math.),
English (Language, Literature and British History) (Eng.),
Modern Languages and Literature (Mod. Lang.).
