presumably the ' empiric ' who had such a long struggle with
the College of Physicians. S. of a goldsmith of London.
According to the D.N.B. he was born in 1550, and graduated
M.A. in 1574 — this last must be a mistake. Best known by
his invention of the aurum potabile. Died May 26, 1623.
