Marriages at Hanworth,
1732 to 1837.
Note. ā The earlier registers are missing and may have been destroyed
between 1807 and 1813 when the church was being rebuilt. This is very
regrettable as they were probably of considerable interest. Rev. Danl.
Lysons, writing in 1800, refers to a register commencing in 1582, and
quotes some interesting entries from it and from subsequent volumes,
including the families of Germaine, Killigrew, Berkeley, Cottington,
Wolseley, Fiennes, Chamber and Beauclerk.
Vol. I. consists of paper leaves bound in parchment boards. Contains
Baptisms and Burials, 1731 to 1812; Marriages, 1732 to 1752; and a list
of rectors from 1609 to 1812. In fairly good condition, measures 15^ in.
by SJ in.
Vol. II consists of printed paper forms for Banns and Marriages combined,
1755 to 1807 ; bound in stiffened vellum. Contains a license from the
Stamp Ofl&ce, dated 4 Oct., 1783. Measures 15 in. by gj in.
Vol. III. consists of printed paper forms for Marriages only, 1813 to 1837;
bound in stiffened parchment. This volume is included in these extracts
because the earlier records are so few in number. It cannot of course
speak for the missing registers as it does for itself.
These extracts have been made by Mr. Thos. Gurney, and are now printed
under his supervision, by leave of Rev. R, Fairfax Scott, Rector of
Hanworth.
