1 The archbishop received homage for land in Leicestershire in 1294, " in aula de Totenhale "
(Ree. Giffard, p. 15). Archbishop le Romeyn and his successor often naade it their resting place,
when visiting London. Its site was close to the comer of Euston and Hampstead Roads, just
north of the end of Tottenham Court Road, which commemorates the prebend of Tottenhall, or
Tottenham Court, in St. Paul's Cathedral. The corpus of this prebend was in the parish of St.
Pancras. Mr. A. Hamilton Thompson writes : — " It seems to have been a common stopping-
place for bishops on their visits to London. I have met it in the Lincoln and Hereford Registers,"
2 Thorpe Salvin, or some place between Scrooby and Gedling.
