the church of York on Friday after the Sunday on which
Letare Jerusalem (April 3) is sung, to answer to the article
given below.

Lynel, capellanum, cui ecclesiam de Couseby, nostre diocesis,
vacantem et ad collacionem nostram auctoritate concilii
devolutam, contulimus intuitu caritatis, in corporalem
possessionem ejusdem induceretis seu faceretis induci et
inductum defendi ; vos mandatum nostrum predictum vobis
directum exequi contemptibiliter non curastis. Unde, licet
vos propter contemptum hujusmodi potuissemus exigente
justicia punivisse, ob reverenciam, tamen, venerabilis fratris
nostri, domini A., Dei gracia Dunolmensis episcopi, puni-
cionem hujusmodi distuhmus in presenti, et vos monemus,
firmiter injungentes, quatinus predictum dominum Johannem
vel procuratorem suum ejus nomine infra sex dies a tempore
recepcionis presencium continue numerandos, quorum duos
pro prima monicione, duos pro secunda et duos pro tercia
peremptorie assignamus, in corporalem possessionem dicte
ecclesie inducatis seu faciatis induci et inductum defendi,

X sub pena excommunicacionis majoris qiiam in personam
vestram proferimiis in hiis scriptis, si non feceritis qnod
mandamus ; contradictores et rebelles per censuram eccle-
siasticam compescendo. Qualiter autem presens mandatum
nostrum fueritis executi, nos absque more dispendio sub
pena predicta certificetis per vestras litteras patentes,
harum seriem continentes.
