tion " ad instanciam nobilis et egregii viri, domini G.,
comitis Gloucestrie,2 cui libenter annuimus tanquam benivolo
et amico," of the sequestration in the prebend of Master
Richard de Clifford in the church of York, " interposita
occasione nostri synodalis statuti, contra appellantes ad
tuicionem curie Cantuariensis pro re in nostra diocesi
existente editi."

1139. 14 kal. Jan. (Dec. 19, 1291). Troyes {apud
Trecas). Mandate from the archb. to Master J. de
Craucumbe, archdeacon of the East Riding, his vicar general
in his absence, to provide Master Elyas de Couton' to a
prebend at Southwell in accordance with the apostolic

from the archb. to Master John de Craucumbe, his vicar
general, enclosing one from pope Nicholas iv, dated at
Orvieto, 7 kal. Oct., 4th year (Sept. 25, 1291), and received

at Crael on Monday after the feast of St. Nicholas (Dec. 10)
by the hands of Stephen de Perusia and John de Sigestro,
cursors of the pope, ordering him to summon a provincial
council to choose two suitable men to send to Rome who
could inform the pope of the deliberations at this council
about the expedition to the Holy Land. The archb. now
commands his vicar general to do what is necessary in this
matter {Letters from Northern Registers, p. 96).

patronatus, et quicquid juris tam in patronatu quam aliunde
optinemus quomodolibet in eadem, vestre ordinacioni pure
et simpliciter submittimus atque supponimus absolute ;
volentes et consencientes expresse ut possitis de eadem
ecclesia de Bilton', suis juribus et pertinenciis omnimodis,
ac jure nostro quocumque in eadem ecclesia, prout Dei et
sancte matris ecclesie honori videritis melius convenire,
libere ordinare. Et nos pro nobis et successoribus nostris
ratum, gratum et acceptum habemus et habebimus inper-
petuum quicquid de prefata ecclesia de Bilton' et ejus
juribus et pertinenciis universis, necnon de jure quod in ipsa
ecclesia undecumque habemus, duxeritis ordinandum,
statuendum, vel eciam decernendum. In cujus rei testi-
monium sigillum nostrum commune presentibus est appen-
