Joseph and Betsey. He was Lieutenant in the Rye MiHtia,
a shoemaker and prosperous farmer at Rye Center. He
held minor town offices, was of a quiet disposition and much

respected.

3, 1816. He was a farmer at Rye Center, in the Rye MiHtia, a
selectman, town clerk, and a staunch Democrat.

Almira Brown, # 2832; married 2nd, Feb. 3, 1863, Martha
French, born in Stratham, Sept. 14, 1814, died in Rye, Dec.
14, 1896, daughter of David and Clara (Wiggin). He was in
the Rye Militia, a prosperous farmer at Rye Center, a deacon
in the Congregational Church 50 years, of happy genial nature,
helpful and benevolent in church work, and a highly respected
man. Almira was born March 16, 1815, died Oct. 29, i860.

27, 1843, married in Portsmouth, Dec. 16, 1827, Mary B. Dun-
can of New Castle, born Apl. 10, 1807, died Jan. 5, 1893. She
married 2nd, March 31, 1869, William Trefethern of Kittery.
In 1833 Hiram bought the Dr. Cutter house in Portsmouth and
changed it into the National Hotel, afterwards managed the
Franklin House, then the Eagle Coffee House in Concord.
Returning to Portsmouth, he managed the Plains Tavern.

F2068 David J. Locke, born in Rye, May 25, 1810. He was
the agent of a sugar company and died of Cuban fever in Cuba,
Aug. 30, 1840. He married in Portsmouth, Dec. 10, 1834, Mary
E. Grant of Portsmouth, born Nov. 26, 18 17, daughter of
Samuel and EUzabeth (Tarlton) of New Castle. She married
2nd, Feb. 19, 1851, George H. Williams, a cabinet maker of
Amesbury, Mass. She lived her last 20 years and died in 1909

in Skamocawa, Wash.

4878 Sarah, 4879 Minerva, and 4880 David died in childhood.

F2089 Blake Locke, born in Corinth, Vt., Feb. 15, 1805,
married Janette Whitney Levett, born in 1806, died Dec.
29, 1863. They lived in Boston, and he died March 4, 1854.

Epsom, born in Rye, May 20, 1781, died March 13, 1870, son

of George, who descended from Christopher, emigrant from

England before 1661. He was a farmer and plow maker, a

very energetic man who lived in Epsom until 1835, then in

East Concord.

Jan. 25, 1871. He owned land in Penacook in 1856, later was a
farmer in East Concord.
