Virginia Rose. He was a chief sutler in the army, said to have
been the first man over at assault of Fort Fisher, was Minister to
Berlin under Johnson, and later was a broker in San Francisco.
He had no children, and died Oakland, Cal., Aug. 24, 1881. His
widow remarried.

Rachel (Lane). In 1837 he moved to Deerfield working as
a farmer and blacksmith. He was several years in Epsom,
East Pembroke, and in 1853 bought a farm in Suncook. The
same year he was in the Penacook saw works, and later manufac-
tured wagon wheels in Thetford, Vt. He returned to Pembroke
in i860, four years later located in Franklin, and died Nov. 27,

1898.

ton, Ohio. He was at first a carpenter, later a grocer and served
as mayor of Wellington. He recruited a company and enlisted
in 1861, assigned as quartermaster in Columbus, Ohio, was taken
sick and died Nov. 17, 1861.

Porter, who was b. Aug. 12, 1854. Mr. Lang attended the schools
at Wellington and about 1863 became telegraph operator on the
old Mad River Railroad. Resigning in 1868, he entered the
employ of the Western Union Service remaining with them until
1874, when he resigned to study law. In 1881 he with friends
purchased a horse car line in Toledo and to this was added other
lines until all came under one head. This company afterwards
acquired all the electric lighting, gas, and heating companies,
together with several inter-urban trolley lines, and for many
years Mr. Lang was either general manager or president of
these properties. In 1902 he retired, spent two years in
travel and on his return built his permanent home in Cornish,
N. H.

5234 Samuel Locke, b. Boston, 1834, was m. and was financial agent of
a coffee importing house in N. Y. City. Reverses in late
life nearly wiped out a very large property. He had: 5235 Wil-
liam H., who was interested with him. His wife d. 1902, and he
d. Orange, N. J., Sept. 21, 191 1.
F5236 Mary Ellen, b. Boston, June 30, 1836, d. Jan. 30, 1892, m. Nov.
7, i860, a cousin, Willard Harris Norris, b. Sutton, Vt., March
5, 1839, son of Welcome and Mary Walsh (Harris). He lived in
Sutton eleven years, then moved to Glens Falls, N. Y., where for
forty years he was a manufacturer of carriages.

18, 1801, died in St. Paul, Minn., Oct. 20, 1868, married Apl. 5,
1825, Sally Stearns of Deerfield, born March 21, 1805, died in
Deerfield, June 15, 1851, daughter of John and Sarah (Lane).
He was a farmer and called Lieutenant.
