In 1748 he gave his home and 60 acres at Dry Point to son James,
and in case of death without issue to son John. James in 1750
makes agreement with son to keep him for life. James or son
James sells land in Rye 1763. He lived at Rye, no doubt at
Locke's Neck.

erine (Marston). He m. 2nd, in Greenland, May 28, 1761,
Mary (Berry) Haines, widow of Joseph. From 1758 to 1763
he and wife Mary buy or sell twelve lots of land at Sandy Beach
Pond and other places in Rye. In 1757 he bought land in Brent-
wood. 1763 he sold land in Kingston. He was on a Com-
mittee to build wharf at Sandy Beach, 1763. Petitioned for
Newmarket Bridge 1755. He was inspector and director of
Minute Men 1775-81. His will is dated May 10, 1794, and he
died in Rye Jan. 28, 1795. Lived at the present Wallace Goss
place.

License to Jeremiah Locke of Rye & Mary his wife to sell
real estate of Joseph Hains late of Greenland of which they
were Administrators Feb. 4, 1762 value £5290. Mary Haines
Widow.

born). She was born March 13, 1724. July 2, 1746, he served
at Fort William and Mary, and took the oath of allegiance in
1776. Sold land in Rye 1767, that he bought of James Locke,
Jr. He died May 15, or 22, 1804.

and died Oct. 29, 1807. He bought land in Portsmouth 1759
and in Barrington Nov. 13, 1760; sold land .in Rye 1753 and
1760 and sold land in Barrington 1762.

F125 Nathaniel Locke, born in Rhode Island Sept. 29, 1723,
married Ann Rose, Jan. 30, 1745; he married 2nd, Temperance
Rose, Aug. 27, 1756. She born Aug. I'j, 1734. In 1775 he
moved to Chenango Co., N. Y., with all his family except John
and Abijah. The Hunnewell Genealogy saj'^s that Lyman
Hunnewell and cousins Nathaniel and Amasa Locke came from
Block Island, and settled in Oxford Co., N. Y. No Amasa Lock
is recorded in Block Island records. Nathaniel paid his first
tax in Block Island (New Shoreham) in 1744. In 1751 he re-
ceived a gift of land from his father-in-law, Daniel Rose; was
made a freeman in 1756 and from that year to 1775 was constable,
tax collector, overseer of the poor, and harbor master many

years.

382 John, b. Nov. 6, 1746; was a sea captain, probably never married.

He paid taxes 1756 and 1757; and in 1783 sold property bought
of his father, does not appear again in the records until 1806 when
the selectmen of Block Island made provision for the necessities
of Captain John Lock of Sherburn, on the Island of Nantucket.

He had a cancer on his face and died, cared for by Block Island
about 1812-14; so said a resident who knew him.

ness. He did leave a daughter, who by report was bound out
when 3 or 4 years old.

He was in the siege of Louisburg and was granted land in Stand-
ish, Me. He born Me. 1726, died 1790. She died in 181 1.

H.VDDAWAY' of Boston who lived as late as 1850. He was a Ship-
master, and was lost in the Mediterranean in 1804. Had no
children.

419 Lear, b. , m. Samuel Buckman of Portland, Me. Lived in the

Province of New Brunswick. Had a son: 420 E. T. Buckman,
New York City.

F134 John Locke, born in Falmouth, Me., Aug. 23. 1742,
married Susann.a. (Ring) York of Falmouth. She was the
widow of Joseph York who died in 1760, having had si.x children
by him. She born 1730, died Oct. 25, 1825, aged 95. John
was a Mariner in Falmouth and died in 1810. She left 11 chil-
dren, 89 grandchildren, 211 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-
grandchildren, a total of 325. Until she was 90 she rode several
miles on horseback each Sunday to attend worship.

corporal in Capt. Cobb's Co., 1779. He died Falmouth Apl. 12,
1 84 1. Gilpatrick name was afterwards known as Patrick.

He married 2nd, Ann (Wilkinson) Van deryer or Van deuser,

in Aurora, N. Y,, 18 12, and died there 1828.

died Dec. 17, 1825. Probably descended from Mary Dyer the
Quakeress hanged in Boston June i, 1660. From Hampton
Caleb went to Winter Harbor, now Biddeford Pool, thence to
Hollis, Me. He was a shoemaker and died Apl. 10, 1820.
