F530 Deacon Abraham Locke, baptized June 28, 1760,
married in Deerfield Apl. 6, 1779, Mary Sanborn, daughter of
Reuben and Elizabeth (Ward) of Epsom. She was baptized
Nov. 30, 1760. He Hved in Epsom where his wife Mary admin-
istered his estate May 5, 1805. Aug. 17, 1805, his cousin
Samuel was appointed guardian over his minor children as
given below. The story is told that the good wife Mary was
preparing bear meat for the family one day when a party of
"bad looking" Indians appeared, and in order to propitiate
them, she was compelled to cook the entire bear before they

grunted their satisfaction and retired.

1577 Moses, was m. but did not live with wife, and d. Apl. 27, 1861.
I judge by the 1820 census that he had i son and 3 daus. but
nothing is known of them.

F537 Francis Locke, born in Epsom, July 6, 1755, married
1st, Mary Abigail Katherwood; married 2nd, Dec. 2, 1819,
Olive Haines Bickford, who was born in Greenland and died
in Allenstown, the daughter of John and Olive (Weeks). He
lived in Epsom, was pensioned at $96 per year for service in the
Revolutionary War, N. H. Continental Line, and died in 1835.

St. Albans Nov. 19, 1847.

there several years, then came back to Canada; had 4 children.

F540 Capt. Samuel Locke (true name, Wm. Samuel Locke),

born , married in Epsom, Dec. 28, 1785, Mary Evans of

Epsom. He enlisted for the Revolutionary War in the First
N. H. Regiment in 1776; again enlisted in Col. McClary's Co.,
1777, for three years. He was so young when he enlisted and
was so long away in the Yorktown campaign, that his people
did not know him when he returned. He was guardian of his
cousin Abraham's minor children in 1805. He kept a tavern
in Dover and died about 1816. She had dower rights in his

property in Epsom, Jan. 16, 1819.

1609 Aaron, b. Sept. 15, 1796, m. May 27, 1818, Mary Judkins of Epsom,

b. 1807, d. Oct. 23, 1858; m. 2nd, Mary Nichols or Pierce, b.
1806, d. Oct. 15, 1896. He lived at Candia and Concord and
died July 2, 1882. Children by ist wife: 1610 Warren; 1611
Morris.

record sent me says she married 2nd, Dec. 14, 1797, Edward

Thurston of Deerfield, though the children are all named

Hutchins. She died in 1850.

F554 Sarah Locke, born in Seabrook, Oct. 31, 1773, died
March 22, 1844, married Captain John Janvrin. He sailed
from Italy for New York in 1812 and his ship was wrecked in
a terrible storm. With a few of the crew he remained with the
ship but they were never heard from afterward. The survivors
of one of the long boats, after weeks of torture were picked up
and told the story. He was son of John and descendant of
John, who was born Island of Jersey July 8, 1707.

He was born in Epsom, Oct. 4, 1763, died June 14, 1843. She
died Aug. 18, 1838. Josiah was a selectman nineteen years,
one year a representative and three years a state senator.

chester. They were in Epsom until 1790, then moved into
Canada, and she was lost at sea coming from the Provinces.

Brown, who was born in Loudon, March 23, 1783, died July

14, 1857. She was the daughter of Moses Bachelder and Mary

(Brown). He was a tanner and farmer in Epsom and Loudon

and died Feb. 9, 1859.

went west in 1850, and d. in Princeton, 111., March 7, 1861. Child
by 2nd wife: 1759 Sarah Frances, b. Mason, Apl. 3, 1849, lived
unm. with Adams family, and d. Greenville, Jan. 13, 1898.

F563 Richard Locke, born in Epsom, Sept. 20, 1770, married
Dec. 28, 1797, Sarah Moses, daughter of Sylvanus and Miriam
(Young) of Epsom. He was drowned while logging at Short
Falls, Epsom. His widow married 2nd, a Gir.\rd of Montreal,
Can., who took the whole family to Canada with him.

New York to educate his children; was a sea captain out of New
Y., later came back to Epsom.

1763 Anna, b. , m. a doctor, lived Grand River above Montreal,

and her mother lived with them.

F565 James Munroe Locke, born in Epsom, March 4, 1776,
married in Epsom, Nov. 28, 1799, Abigail Sherburne of Ports.
She was born July 17, 1775, died Sept. 29, 1859. He had a good
education, having studied with Rev. Wm. Hazeltine at Epsom.
He visited England, taught school in Virginia, returned to
Epsom and in 1800 moved to Stanstead, Canada, where he lived
and raised his family. He was killed by a horse March 29, 1845.

Parsons' pay roll Sept. 8, 1777, and finally was drowned at
Isles of Shoals, Sept. 23, 1816. His widow married 2nd, Nov.
4, 1832, Rev. Daniel Gale of Palmira, Me.
