ried, second, March 17, 1S17, Eunice Eaton of Tuftonboro, N. H., born in Mere-
dith, N. H., Nov. 30, 1784, died 1818; third, Feb. 28, 1820, Sophia Leavitt of Gil-
manton, born Dec. 15, 1792, died Nov. 17,1846; fourth, November, 1847, Mrs.
Susan Weeks of Gilford, died 1862. He died at his daughter's, Mrs. Buzzell, Jan.
14, 1864. Children.

Miles Thurston {Samuel), son of Samuel and Ann (Foster) Thurston of Gil-
ford, N. H. ; born there Dec. 13, 1821 ; married, Feb. 13, 1843, Eliza Ricker, bom
in Dover, N. H., Feb. 11, 1824, daughter of James Shores and Eliza (Whitten)
Ricker of Alton, N. H. He is a farmer in Lynnfield Center, Mass., and a member
of the Methodist church. Previous to taking up his present residence he lived in
Alton and Tamworth, N. H., and in Peabody, Mass.

5381 Eliza Jane, b. Sept. 18, 1845; "i- ^^t, Sept. 18, 1861, Caleb Augustus Web-

ster of Peabody, Mass., her parents residing there at the time. He en-
listed in the army against the rebellion in August, 1862, took the swamp
fever, came home sick in June, 1863, and died a few days after. She re-
moved to Lynnfield Center, Mass., with her parents, and m. 2d, Jan. I,
1868, Robert Sweetser Henfield, a farmer. She had:

John Langdon Thurston (Miles, Satiuiel), son of Miles and Eliza (Ricker)
Thurston of Lynnfield Center, Mass.; born in Alton, N. H., Jan. 26, 1850; mar-
ried, May 2, 1870, Carrie Matilda Henfield, born Nov. 23, 1848, daughter of
Joseph and Elizabeth Green (Sweetsev) Henfield of Lynnfield Center. He is col-
lector in San Francisco, Cal., a member of the Congregational church. Before go-
ing to California he was conductor on trains running out of Boston, living in Dan-
vers and Lynn, Mass., and Portsmouth, N. H. They had :

5393 Sarah (or Sally) Thurston, born June 16,1778; married, in Gilmanton,
N. H., where most of her married life was spent, by Elder Richard Martin, Sept. 15,
1803, Hubbard Thompson, born in Holderness, N. H., April 22, 1782, one of a
large family, originally of Durham, but living chiefly in Holderness, N. H. The
family tradition is that she was from " down country," in the neighborhood of
Portsmouth, Durham, or Exeter. She died in Danville, Vt., two weeks after the
birth of her daughter, Sept. 19, 1811, aged 35.

20, 1867, leaving a da. Mary Jane (Curtis), who m. Myron Dodge of Hume,

Wellesley, Mass.

4, 1836, Harvey Brace, b, near Marietta, O., July 14, 1801, lived in Janes-
ville, Wis. ; she d, Nov. 4, 1854, he d. Aug. 14, 1875. They were, and all
their children are members of the Cong, church, and nearly all have been

of 1812, was wounded at the battle of Plattsburg, and died from the effects of the

David Thurston {John}, son of John and Abigail (Tripp) Thurston of Barker,
N. Y. ; born there April 9, 1808; married, Jan. 5, 1832, Catherine Fuller, born
in Barker, July 11, 1812. He was a farmer in York, 111., going there in 1S36, when
the country was new, the Indians, deer and wolves roaming unmolested over the
prairies. The soil was deep and good, magnificent groves of timber, with pure
water, and he settled upon it with no capital to start with, but by industry and fru-
gality made a comfortable home and a competence for himself and his family. He
was a justice of the peace, a member of the Methodist church, class leader, and
superintendent of the Sunday-school for twenty-eight years ; respected and beloved
by all who knew him. In 1870 he retired from business and moved to FuUersburg,
111., died May 5, 1880, and she resides with her daughter, Mrs. Dr. Frank, in Chi-
cago, 111. Children.

Benjamin Perkins Thurston {Miles Leavitt, Benjamin), son of Miles Leavitt
and Sarah (Perkins) Thurston of Gilford, N. H. ; born there July 15, 1801 ; mar-
ried, April 5, 1835, Sally Macoy Goss, born Aug. 11, 1809, daughter of John and
Abigail (Randall) Goss of Gilford. He was a farmer in Enfield, N. H., died April
24, 1863 ; she resides with her daughter, Mrs. Copp.

5477 Moses Thurston, married Betsey Filer, now living in E.xeter, N. H.
Their son, Charles Filer, says his father left his mother in Canada when he was
six years old and his brother George Almore one year old. He heard from him by
way of his uncle John, some years after, who reported he had married in Utica,
N. Y., and had three children. Moses told his brother John that his first wife was
dead, and he had put his son Charles Filer out to live. Charles says when he was
sixteen years of age his mother heard that her husband was married, and she mar-
ried, altho he opposed it all he could. Children :

5478 Charles Filer, b. in Stanstead, Lower Canada, Nov. 8, 1827 ; went to Phila-

delphia, Penn., when he was 21, and m., March 3, 1852, Elizabeth Shuster,
b. Jan. 27, 1835, da. of Samuel and Ann (Merrin) Shuster of Philadel-
phia. He went to California in 1861, and did pretty well in business; his
family came to him in 1868, did not like California, and returned to Phila-
delphia after five weeks. In 1869 he went to his family intending to stay,
but was not contented, and returned to San Francisco ; began to speculate
in stocks, and lost all he had made ; now a hackman ; his sons are in busi-
ness with him. Children :
