enlisted for the war, taken prisoner at battle of Cold Harbor May,
1864, in Andersonville prison till December; paroled, went to Annap-
olis ; paroled for a month, returned, and was there till peace was de-
clared, and orders to return all paroled prisoners to their homes, but
before the order came to Annapolis, he, with many others, had left for
their regiments upon a steamer that collided with another boat in Poto-
mac river on a dark night, and he, with nearly 100 others, were drowned
April 24, 1865.

May 24, 1823. He was a provision dealer in Roxbury, Mass., until
disabled by rheumatism ; lived in Framingham, Fayville, and Brook-
field, Mass., where he died Jan. 29, 1847.

of the preceding, and son of Samuel and Sarah (Harrington) Thurs-
ton of Westboro, Mass. ; born there May 3, 1777 ; married, April 27,
1806, Frances Burrill of Roxbury, Mass. He was in the cattle
business in Brighton and Roxbury, Mass.; was in the war of 1812,
and in 1813 moved to Jamaica Plain, Mass., where he died, Oct. 28,
1817 ; she died in Chelsea, Mass., July 2, 1874.

son of Daniel and Sarah (Curtiss) Thurston, formerly of Sharon,
Conn. ; born Feb. 13, 1766 ; married, 1787, Charlotte Mudge. He
was a farmer in Verona, N. Y. They were members of Rev. Israel
Barnard's church, meeting in a barn, where the roosters, cows and
calves aided in the music. The girls wore homespun dresses, and
shoes tied with leather strings. In 1820 they moved to Busti, N. Y.
He died Nov. 29, 1824; she died in Geneva, N. Y., 1842 or 3.

and Kinderhook, N. Y. ; she d. April, 1806; no children.

ogy, 1873; enlisted in the war against the rebellion 1S62, in the 129th
N. Y. reg., and served to close of the war ; received a pension, and set-
tled in Jamestown, N. Y. ; m. Louise Taylor, b. in Niagara Co., N. Y.

6160 Lydia,'' b. Aug. 18, 1803; m., July 4, 1825, Joseph Clement, b. in Montgom-

ery Co., N. Y., Nov. 20, 1799, ^ farmer and foundryman in Medina, N. Y.
They had the care of her mother in her last days, and after her death his
own father, mother, a sister with four children (two of them blind), ren-
dered helpless by the death of her husband, were thrown upon them for
support, which so drew upon their resources that he sold his foundry,
moved his family to Albion, and went to California in April, 1850. At
first he was not successful, but after going to Mariposa he accumulated
quite a sum of money; sold in 1865, and started for home, was robbed,
and supposed to have been murdered. Mrs. Clement has been in the
Home of the Friendless, Rochester, N. Y., for some years, and has a vig-
orous mind and a warm heart.

brother of the preceding, and son of Daniel and Sarah (Curtiss)
Thurston, formerly of Sharon, Conn. ; born April 9, 1774; married,
1795, Margaret Phillips, born in Brunswick, N. Y. She died
1824. He was a farmer in Whitestown, N. Y. ; in an artillery regi-
ment in the war of 18 12. Soon after his wife's death he removed to
Albion, N. Y., and died March 23, 1829.

yohn^), brother of the preceding, and son of Daniel and Sarah
(Curtiss) Thurston, formerly of Sharon, Conn. ; born in Stephen-
town, N. Y., July 27, 1778 ; married, 1803, Thankful Bailey, born
Jan. 27, 1786. She died April 4, 1858. He was a farmer in West-
moreland, Oneida county, N. Y., and in the spring of 18 14 moved to
Barre, N. Y., as a pioneer. In 1852 he sold his farm there and moved
to Albion, N. Y., and he and his wife lived with their youngest daugh-
ter till their death. They were both members of the Presbyterian
church ; he died June 30, 1867.

or Margaret Hills; she died Dec. 13, 1794, aged 29. Second,
Jan. 10, 1796, Lucy Hayden, daughter of Moses and Mercy (Stone)
Hayden of Grafton. He went to Orange, Vt., in 1803, as a farmer;
was an intelligent man, honored by his fellow citizens with many of-
fices of trust, representative to the legislature in 1810 and 181 1, died
Feb. 16, 1848.

16, 1862), Austin W. Tracy, a teamster in Boston, Mass., son of Joel and
Maria Tracy; she d. Dec. 31, 1886. They had:

Thurston of Grafton, Mass. ; born there Nov. 7, 1775 ; married, Oct.
3, 1799, Rosanna Ellis, born June 21, 1782, daughter of Amos and
Hannah ( Hill) Ellis of Bellingham, Mass. He was an extensive
farmer on the homestea^ farm on George Hill, Grafton ; a private in
2d regiment Oct. 4, 1804, and in Captain J. Merriman jr.'s company
of foot May 7, 1805, died Aug 22, 1825 ; she was a member of the
Baptist church, died June 28, 1849.

son of Peter and Elizabeth (Holbrook) Thurston of Grafton, Mass. ;
born there Aug. 2, 1775 ; married [intentions Aug. 26, 1798, between
Pardius Thurston and Sally Ward, both of Upton, Mass., per rec-
ord] Sarah Ward, born June 27, 1776. He was a manufacturer or
agent in Upton. His wife received an affectionate letter from him
dated at some point in Cuba, March i, 1801, stating he was to sail
for home April 4, 1801. This was the last ever heard from him.
She died June 27, 1844.
