land county, Penn., Nov. 11, 181 1 ; married, first, July i, 1838, Lou-
RiNDA Laing, born Aug. 29, 1822, daughter of John and Sarah
(Tucker) Laing of Cincinnati, O. She died June 25, 1881. Second,
Oct. 25, 188 r, Mary Mann. One of the children says of his mother,
" She was a true wife and a kind and loving mother, a good neighbor
and a christian in every sense of the word. She left behind her an
example that any woman could emulate with profit. She was held
in such high esteem that all harvesting was suspended for six miles
along the road, to attend the funeral."

Mr. Thurston moved to Franklin county, Ind., 1820, to Hendrick's
township, Shelby county, Ind., 1845, died I>ec. 7, 1889. " He was
an industrious, thrifty farmer, and leaves a fine estate, which he accu-
mulated mainly by his own toil ; scrupulously honest, and careful to
fulfil every promise ; a sociable, companionable man, and had many
friends who enjoyed his society ; a loving and faithful husband and
father ; his children honored and looked up to him as an example.
Above all he was a pious, godly man ; religion was a part of his daily
life ; no one could be much in his society without hearing him speak
of his christian hopes."
