He was a master mechanic in the Little Androscoggin Water Power
.Company at Auburn, Me. ; March, 1880, moved to Fall River, Mass.,
to be master mechanic in the Pocasset mill, 1883 was called to be
master mechanic of the Great Falls Mnfg. Co. at Great Falls, N. H,,
one of the largest in New England, 132,000 spindles; served in the
war against the rebellion in the 13th Massachusetts regiment three
years from April, 1861 ; was wounded at Fort Royal, Va., and re-
ceives a pension, is a Universalist, she a Congregationalist.

Elsie (Davis) Hawes of Union. He was a farmer and traveling
preacher in the Methodist church till 1867, after a local preacher in
Union, on the school committee several years, died Jan. 20, 1869.
