one foot ; engaged in blacksmithing and mining near Forest Hill, Placer
county, Cal., and in 1S86 came to 80. Windsor, where he was a farmer; is
now at Michigan l!luff, Cal.

7677 Willard (Miller), b. Sept. 30, 1830 ; a joiner in Whitefield ; m., in Weymouth,

Mass., March 5, 1866, Rachel Esther Ware, b. Aug. 9, 1835. '^^- °^ Daniel
Addison and Levina (Miller) Ware of Norfolk, Mass. ; he d. in Franklin,
Mass., March 27, 18S8, where she still lives; both Baptists.

7678 Rev. Horace (Miller), b. Oct. 16, 1834; has been a farmer, teacher, and

Methodist preacher, teaching in Maine, six years in California and Minne-
sota, and 12 years in Tennessee, where his health broke down so com-
pletely that he had to be taken to Sulphur Springs on a bed ; 1890 preach-
ing in Arapahoe, Neb. ; he was master of English, French, Greek, Latin
and Spanish; m., in McMinnville, Tenn., Oct. 12, 1870, Olive Chase
Fuller, b. in New Sharon, Me., June 2, 1835, da. of Rev. Aaron and Pat-
tie (Norton) Fuller of Livermore, Me. They now reside in Arapahoe,
where he is a house carpenter. They have :

which he worked about two years, and was shot in his cabin, Feb. 4, 1874.

Jesse and Levina (Thurston) Miller of Franklin, Mass.; born there
Nov. 12, 1800; married, April 15, 1829, Catherine Guild of Wal-
pole, Mass. He was a farmer in what is now Norfolk, Mass. ;
both members, he deacon, of the Baptist church, died Jan. 23, 1859 ;
she died Aug. 26, 1874.

20, 181 1 ; married, first, April 3, 1834, Susan Rhodes, daughter of
Aaron and Sally (Hawkins) Rhodes of Wrentham, Mass. She died
Jan 9, 1870. Second, Dec. 26, 187 1, Susan W. Waltz of Augusta,
Me. He was a manufacturer of proprietary medicines in Providence,
R. I., till Jan. i, 1877, when they removed to Sheldonville, Mass.
Two sons were with him, L. G. and B. T., under firm name of Dr.
J. Miller & Sons & Co. He was a deacon of the Baptist church
for over fifty years, died Aug. 21, 1885.

7722 Mary Eliza (Miller), b. in Franklin, Mass., March 14, 1836 ; m., June 24,
1857, Leonard Samuel Willard, a painter and paper hanger, and after a
jeweler in Wrentham, Mass. ; she was very ingenious, and had a natural
taste for drawing and needlework, d. Sept. 28, 1863; he d. March 22, 1864.

ing of South Franklin, Mass. She died June 7, 1843. Mr. Whiting
married, second, 1848, Sarah Olivia Hancock, born in Wrentham,
Mass., April 19, 181 1, and adopted a daughter, Anna Olivia Whiting,
born Dsc. 9, 1846, who married Daniel Bennett of Wrentham, and
had Willard Francis (Bennett), born Sept. 4, 1874, diejd Nov. 26,
1876; Alice Bradford (Bennett), born Nov. 25, 1876. He was a
farmer in South Franklin, deacon of the Congregational church, died
Sept. 7, 1887.

born there Jan. 19, 1833; married, first, in Sun Prairie, Wis., Feb.
22, i860, Martha Lucinda Parks, born Oct. 14, 1837, daughter of
John Branch and Rebecca (Bisby) Parks of Ticonderoga, N. Y. She
died in Glenville, Minn., Sept. 4, 1886. Second, Aug. 29, 1889,
Mrs. Laura Tanner, born in Waterloo, la., daughter of J. C.
Engle of Austin, Minn. He went to Wisconsin 1855, and to Shell
Rock, Minn., 1857, to an extensive farm ; was teacher till 1869, when
he was elected county superintendent of schools, which office he
filled till 1882 ; during sessions of the Minnesota legislature, 1887-g,
was clerk of the senate engrossing committee ; has held all the town
offices, and served in the war against the rebellion as orderly ser-
geant in the ist Minnesota regiment; March, 1890, went to Washing-

ton, D. C, as clerk in the census office till July, 1891, when he com-
menced work in the proof room of the government printing office.

Washington, D. C. ; Jan. i, 1891, re-elected prin. and supt. of schools in
Forest City.

Thurston of Jacobsburg, Belmont county, Ohio ; born there Dec. 22,
1823 ; married, April 23, 1846, Jane White Lingo, born in Barnes-
ville, Ohio, Nov. 24, 1827, daughter of Gideon and Mary (Boyd)
Lingo. He was a school teacher from the age of eighteen for eigh-
teen years, during which time he studied medicine. In 1859 he
moved to St. Clairsville, the county seat of Belmont county, and
served for four years as sheriff. In 1863 he moved to Newark, Lick-
ing county, Ohio, and ' opened a drug store, in company with J. W.
Collins, under the firm name of Collins & Thurston.

and Eleanor (Mercer) Thurston of Sheffield, 111.; born in Belmont
county, Ohio, Feb. f2, 1834; married, July 4, 1857, Mary Siniith,
born at Princeton, 111., Dec. 13, 1840, daughter of Noahdiah and Re-
becca (Patten) Smith. . He was a farmer in Manlius, since in Proph-
etstown. 111. ; a member and clerk of the Methodist church, and
school director.

and Abigail ( Spring) Thurston of Black Ash, Penn. ; born there
May 5, 1840 ; married, Feb. 13, 1868, Sarah Frances Irons, born
April 20, 1851. He is a farmer at Wilson's Mills, P. O. Black Ash;
served in the 211th Pennsylvania regiment in the war against the re-
bellion, severely wounded Sept. 9, 1864, and discharged June i, 1865,
died Feb. 12, 1882 ; she married second, Feb. 20, 1889, George
Lemmons.

born Oct. 29, 1839, ^^i^^^ Feb. 24, 1870 ; second, Dec. 26, 1870, Mary
M. Bartlett, died Feb. 5, 1875 ; third, Dec. 23, 1879, Frances
Angeline Hipple. He was a mechanic and inventor, one of the
pioneers to Hebron, Minn., where he took an active part in the de-
fense of the settlers against the Indians, and taught school for some
years ; a man of intelligence, holding very decided, but liberal views,
a close reasoner and ready debater ; in religion a Methodist, tho ac-
knowledging the universal church rather than any particular creed ;
moved to Crawford county in 1875, ^'""^^ ^\^^ in Duke Center, Penn.,
Aug. 22, 1886, where he was interested in the oil business.
