Monroe, born Aug. 9, 1820, daughter of Thomas B. and Clarissa
(Sandford) Monroe of Bristol, R. I. ; she died March 26, 1879. He
is a trader ; many years postmaster in Bristol ; both members of the
Episcopal church.

Thurston of North Stonington, Conn.; born there May 13, 1795;
married, Oct. 25, 1818, Sophia Thayer, daughter of Benjamin
Thayer of Hardwick, Mass. He was a farmer in Ackron, O., died
March 12, 1829, buried on Thurston Hill, Springfield, N. Y. ; she
died in Greenwich, Mass., Jan. 7, 1858, and was buried in Hard-
wick, Mass., new cemetery, as were all the children.

ton of Springfield, N. Y. ; born there Aug. 4, 1797 ; married, Dec. 11,
18 1 7, Abby Blanchard, born at Argyle, N. Y., May 13, 1795, daugh-
ter of Elias [wounded at the battle of Bunker Hill] and Mary
(Parker) Blanchard of Coventry, R. I. He was a farmer at Cincin-
natus, and after on Thurston Hill, N. Y. ; she died Jan. 17, 1884; he
died Dec. 12, 1886.*

*"They had, 1888, 9 children, 12 grandchildren, 10 g-g-children, and 1 g-g-g-child,
over 4 years old. He lived and died within 200 rods of wlierelie was born, and 5 gener-
ations are living within speaking distance of each other. Not long since the 5 genera-
tions spent an evening at a husking bee, where the babe husked over a bushel ot corn.
For a number of years, wlien the country was new, tlie old gentleman kept a repair
shop for the accommoilation of the neighbors, where they went to get shoes (before
hoots came into s-cneral use) made and mended, harnessesand brass kettles repaired,
cart and wagon wheels made as good as new, and all the other p.arts of ditferent vehi-
cles supplied, clocks cleaned and musical instruments put in order, beside attending
to the wants of the hoys with their handsleds, and ladies with tlieir churns and flat-
irons. In fact, everything that was out of order went to 'uncle Linus'' shop, and
came out with a new lease of life and usefulness. He always voted the republican
ticket, never missed a state election, and never was out of the state. He never used
tobacco nor intoxicating drinks, tho nearly everyboilj' used it in those days; joined the
Methodist church in 1810, and continued firm in the faith, a humble follower of Christ."
