Mr. Sanford was a sawyer and farmer. In 1889, he moved
to Spokane, Wash., where he went into the grocery business, sell-
ing out in a year and a half to move to Bellingham, Wash. Here
he rented a large sawmill and carried on a successful business for
some years. In 1894, he purchased a farm in Pomeroy, Wash.,
where the remainder of his life was spent. He was County Auditor
of Garfield Co. for two terms. Mr. Sanford was an honest and
respected citizen, an efficient and industrious officer, and a kind
Christian man. His widow and sons reside on the home farm.
They had three children.

At the outbreak of the Civil "War Mr. Sanford helped to raise
a company of "Volunteers at Jacksonville, 111., whose services were
tendered to the Government. After the war he studied law, and
was admitted to practice by the Supreme Court of the State of
Illinois in 1870. In 1871, he was admitted to practice in the State
of Missouri, and in 1882 in the territory of Dakota, where he

remained until Nov., 1903, when he removed to San Diego, Cal.,
where he now resides.

Mr. Sanford was a sawyer and farmer. In 1889, he moved
to Spokane, Wash., where he went into the grocery business, sell-
ing out in a year and a half to move to Bellingham, Wash. Here
he rented a large sawmill and carried on a successful business for
some years. In 1894, he purchased a farm in Pomeroy, Wash.,
where the remainder of his life was spent. He was County Auditor
of Garfield Co. for two terms. Mr. Sanford was an honest and
respected citizen, an efficient and industrious officer, and a kind
Christian man. His widow and sons reside on the home farm.

At the outbreak of the Civil "War Mr. Sanford helped to raise
a company of "Volunteers at Jacksonville, 111., whose services were
tendered to the Government. After the war he studied law, and
was admitted to practice by the Supreme Court of the State of
Illinois in 1870. In 1871, he was admitted to practice in the State
of Missouri, and in 1882 in the territory of Dakota, where he

remained until Nov., 1903, when he removed to San Diego, Cal.,
where he now resides.
