N. Y. She is a dutiful, loving wife and mother, a good house-

Mr. Sanford was born, as the author has it, on the same day
his father died in AndersonTOle Prison. Left an orphan, he had
to fight his own way practically unaided. In his struggles he has so
well acquitted himself that he owns a good farm in Stockholm, N.
Y., and a fine home in Potsdam. N. Y. He was in the employ of
the Vermont Farm Machine Co., of Bellows Falls, Vt., for some
years as sales agent, and by reason of his success, received a hand-
some salary. In size he excels his father, weighing two hundred
and forty pounds, standing about five feet ten in height, and pos-
sessing great strength and endurance. His success is a credit to
him and he is entitled to it. In 1907 he opened a fine boot and
shoe store in Potsdam, N. Y., which he is very successfully conduct-
ing. He is one of the three members of Board of "Water Commis-
sioners of the village, and has given and is giving much time to his
