OTHEE PIONEEE SANFORDS

ZACHARY SANFORD (PIONEER)

Probably a close relative of Thomas the Pioneer.
The following tables are put up after the plan of the Thomas
Sanford work. (See "'Key to WorA-". page 86.) There is no index
to these tables.

1. ZACHARY SANFORD, d. Dec. 23, 1668, in Saybrooke.
Ct. : m. Hannah, dan. of John Rockwell of Windsor, Ct., d. Jan.
15, 1665. I find no record of him in Hartford, but he is ever
spoken of a.s having been first in that place. I bi.4ieve he first
settled in Hartford since his wife lived near that place and for the
further reason that I believe that Andrew, Robert and Nathaniel
Sanford who settled in Hartford were his brothers. He was made
a Freeman in 1658 and elected a Representative in 1657-8.

At the time of his death he was in debt to :\Iiles Clay of Brain-
tree, Eng. After Clay's death John Durrant and John Lomy
(Loomisf (on the part of his wife) took out letters of administra-
tion on Clay's estate in County Court at Hartford, Ct., so as to
enable them to collect the claim against Zachary's estate. The
records at Hartford and Saybrooke show nothing further. He
went to Saybrooke in 1615. This Court record at Hartford (.se*-
page 65) was and is the only clue which the author of this work
has found ns to whence in England the Pioneer Thomas of Milford.
Robert. Andrew and Zaehary of Hartford came, and by which the
parentase was eventually found of Thom.as. Robert and Andrew
Sanford. i^i-e arfide by C. A. Hoppin in front par-f of hotd-."^
