Mr. William B. Sowell

This Edition of the 1967 CHOWANOKA is dedicated to one who
has brought honor to Chowan College as an outstanding student, a
loyal alumnus, and a dedicated professor. Graduation from the
school of Graphic Arts soon after the school was organized, he did
additional study at East Carolina College before returning to Cho-
wan College to give unsellishlv of his time and talents to his alma
mater. A friendly smile for all, a loyal member of his Methodist
Church, a Southern gentleman, and a good Christian — these phrases
are typical of the man to whom we dedicate this annual. It is with
sincere appreciation that we. the Chowanoka staff, honor in this de-
dication of the 1967 CHOWANOKA Mr. William B. Sowell.

Guiding the students in the print-
ing of the annual is just one of Mr.
Sowell's many tasks.

Academics

Dear Fellow Cliowanians:

By the time these words reach the printed page, the greater portion of academic year
1966-67 will be history. Each of us has experienced many different moods throughout
the course of the year: fi-ustation at the seeming inability to penetrate some difficult
assignment; agitation over the multitude of tasks which seemed to press in upon us,
simultaneously; elation over an academic job well-done, an athletic contest well-fought,
or a social affair where warmth of friendship was in evidence.

We have known joy in the cultivation of friendships, new and old. We have known sad-
ness at the passing of a fellow student and of staff personnel. We have known the close-
ness of God in quiet solitude or in corporate worship.

For all of us the year 1966-67 has been one in which Life has taken on added dimen-
sions academically, socially, religiously. My hope is that it will prove to have been a
"station along the way" toward full maturity intellectually, socially, and spiritually.

Cordiallv,

rzxx^ix 5^

THINK ON THESE TIHNGS

What to re,n.-mlHT. - what to forget. - that is the
que^lioll.

It .eenis In me that the pou.l things, the heavenly
gui.lance, the help thai olher men have given us to keep
\\n- right path, are the things to remember.

The mistakes, the false leads, the devilish influences,
are the things to forget.
