William Tatton his grandson and elder brother
of Margaret above-named, in which William
Tatton the elder settles on his grandson all his

Wytiicnshawe estates during the lifetime of
his father, about 1616, did not enjoy his pos-

the river Mersey in January, 1616-17, in the
thirty-second year of his age, as thus feelingly
recorded in the Northenden Parish Registers :

8. — RiCHAPD THE SONNE OF RiCHABD BCCKLET ESQUIEB
SONNE AND HEIEE OF Se RiCHARD BuCKLEY OF

Bewmaeres in the countieof Anglesea Knight
WAS baptised the 8th.

Richard Bulkeley, whose baptism is here given,
was the eldest son of Richard Bulkeley and
Katherine Needham his wife, and was grandson
to Sir Richard Bulkeley, Kt., of Beaumaris and
Cheadle. The second-named Richard Bulkeley
died before his father, Sir R'chard ; and Mr
Enrwaker {East Cheshire 1-171) thinks it probable
that, after the death of the latter, the Bulkeley
estates were divided, seeing that he had to pro-
vide for the offspring ©f two marriages. It is
supposed that the Cheadle, Whatcroft, and other
Cheshire properties remained with the heirs of
Sir Richard by his first wife, the Beaumaris
and Welsh estates being settled upon his heirs by
his second marriage. In 1622 Katherine Bulkeley,
widow of Richard Bulkeley, Esquire, and the
mother of Richard whose baptism is given above,
petitioned the Court of Wards and Liveries of the
Prince of Wales, as Earl of Chester, and was al-
lowed to retain the wardship and marriage of her
son, who, being under age, had become a ward of
the Earl. A commission was also issued to divide
into three parts all the lands held by the late
Richard Bulkeley. The Richard Bulkeley whose
baptism is above recorded only lived to be about
twenty -three years of age, dying at the PeeJe, an
old moated house in Northen Etchells, September
26, 1633, and was buried at Cheadle the following
day. He had married, about 1630, Dorothy,
daughter of Sir Thomas H-'skias, of Oxsted, co.
Surrey, by whom he had Humphrey Bulkeley, a
posthumous son, born November 29, 1633, died
February 17, 1636-7. There was also a daughter,
ultimately his sole heiress, who married Sii Henry
Ayloffe, bart.

William Davenport, whose baptism is here
reeorde<', was the eldest son of William Daven-
port of Bramall, the baptism of whom on March
25, 1584, is the first to be entered in the Stock-
port Parish Registers. The mother of the first-
named William Davenport was Frances, daughter
of Thomas Wilbraham, of Wcodhey, Esquire, bat
she died when he was about eleven years of
of age. On September 26, 1627, when he was
little more than seventeen years of age, a double
wedding was celebrated at Stockport Parish
Church, the contracting parties being William
Davenport the father, now a widower, who mar-
ried Margaret, daughter of Th»ma8 Legb, of
Adlington, E.'quire, widow of Henry Arderne, of
Harden, Esquire, and William Davenport, the
son who married Frances, daughter of the late
Henry Arderne and the above-named Margaret his
wife; in o+iher words, to quote the family
pedigree, " the same day that her mother was
married to her husband's father." William
Davenport the younger died during the lifetime
of his father and of his grandfather, being buried
at Stockport January 8, 1641 2. He died without
